“Muñeca” Palacios looks for redemption

The Durango, México, female flyweight Aracely “Muñeca” Palacios has a thorn in her side.  She feels she got a raw deal back in July of last year when she faced up and coming contender Seniesa Estrada (14-0, 4KO) of East Los Angeles, California, practically in her back yard of nearby Anaheim and now wants a return bout with the undefeated Golden Boy Promotions’ fighter.

Palacios, a veteran of nearly twenty professional fights, got her start back in early February of 2012 and since then she has faced a number of the toughest names in female boxing.  She has traded punches against the likes of Brenda Ramos, former champion Isabel Millan, Olympic bronze medalist Marlen Esparza and United States amateur standout Poula Estrada.

The 31 year-old fighter is waiting for the winner of Seniesa Estrada against Debora Rengifo this upcoming Saturday night in Mexicali, Mexico, for the vacant WBC Silver light flyweight title hoping for the opportunity to be the first defense for the winner.

“I think Estrada is a very technical fighter,” she explained.  “She really doesn’t have a lot of power and mostly she just lands her punches to score points.  I think she wins over the judges with her style but I never really felt her punches.  I think with a better camp and with more time I think we could have given her a bigger challenge. Usually they call a week before the fight.”

She wouldn’t mind another go at Esparza if a fight against Estrada can’t be made in the immediate future.

“I’ve faced both of the golden girls but with Esparza it was a bit different because I gave up an advantage in weight,” Palacios said after a tough training session in her hometown of Durango.  “Despite of that, I would like to face Esparza again if I had my choice because she is willing to fight in Mexico and Estrada is barely going to do that.  I felt Esparza was the stronger of the two.”

The aggressive come-forward fighter has strung together two wins a row with a 5^th round stoppage of Margarita Senauda late last year and a unanimous decision over Edna Maltos in her last fight in May.

“We are looking to get back in the ring soon,” Palacios said of her return.  “We’ve had some fights fall through, we were hoping to face Amaris Quintana but that fell through then a fight against Lupita Martinez also didn’t happen despite getting well ahead in talks.  I would like to face Zulina Muñoz since she is coming back.  I am sure my advisors Primo Ramos and Joe Serrat in Califorina will have something for me soon.”
