Metamoris III delivers with Bravo vs Gracie rematch

Metamoris III was the event that featured the much anticipated rematch between Royler Gracie and Eddie Bravo. Two legends in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu who were to compete in a 20 minute match where the only way to win was by submission. Saturday night the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California played host to the event which streamed live on pay-per-view online.

The last time the two met was in 2003 during the Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling Championship where Bravo submitted Gracie with a triangle choke. The victory catapulted Bravo into another realm in the jiu-jitsu world and was a signature win in the career and foundation for his 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu system.

Royler Gracie is widely considered one of the most accomplished grapplers to have ever competed. Multiple time champion of Abu Dhabi and World Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. At the time of his defeat he was virtually unbeatable in sport jiu-jitsu competition.

Bravo started the match by jumping into half guard but soon after would start his series of attempts to submit Gracie.

Multiple times during the match Bravo used his lockdown from half-guard to set up the electric chair submission which puts pressure on the opponent’s groin as it tests the flexibility while separating their legs in two different directions.

The attack made Gracie go into defensive mode and had to find ways to escape Bravo’s submissions.

After 20 minutes of some of the most exciting and intense display of high level grappling the match was declared a draw. Not everyone in attendance or watching online would agree. Most felt that Bravo was the aggressor and his use of hybrid moves.

While the official result will say it was a draw the real winner of the night was the sport of jiu-jitsu. With good production and presentation of the product, the world was exposed to what a competitive grappling match looks like. There were also other matches on the card that featured The Mendes brothers, Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Dean Lister. The event replay can be viewed by visiting the website www.metamoris.com .
