McKENZIE-MACCARINELLI COLLIDE AGAIN

Commonwealth Light-Heavyweight Champion Ovill McKenzie and Enzo Maccarinelli will face each again at Wembley Arena on Saturday 20th April after their first fight ended in a storm of controversy.   When they clashed last November in Liverpool, McKenzie retained his title with a second round stoppage of the Swansea puncher with referee Ian John Lewis stepping in to stop a barrage of punches from the Derby hitter.   Many ringside observers felt that Maccarinelli – a former WBO World Cruiserweight Champion who won the British title in his previous fight against Shane McPhilbin – was halted prematurely after he was holding his own against McKenzie.   Both fighters wanted to do it again and the fight will now feature as chief-support on Frank Warren’s bumper Wembley Arena show, alongside Liam Walsh’s WBO European Lightweight title defence against former two-time World Champion Scott Harrison, on the undercard of Nathan Cleverly’s WBO World Light-Heavyweight title defence against Robin Krasniqi, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).   Maccarinelli, who’s won 27 of his 35 fights by KO, is promising that he’ll knockout his rival this time.  He said, “This is unfinished business for me and it’s going to be settled once and for all on the night.  Initially I was really disappointed with the result and felt that the referee had stepped in too early, but what’s happened has happened, there is no point looking back at it, all I want to do now is reverse the result with a win at Wembley Arena.  There will be no dispute with the result this time, I’m back to my dynamite-punching best and I’m goint to knock McKenzie clean out.”   Jamaican born McKenzie, who’s last three fights have ended by stoppage inside three rounds, says the result will be the same again.  “The referee did Maccarinelli a big favour by stopping the fight early, another 30 seconds and he would have been knocked out,” he said.  “I think that it was stopped 10-15 seconds early and it robbed me of a KO win.  Maccarinelli wants it again, but this will be his last fight, it will be a career-ender when I’ve finished with him.  He’ll get the same treatment again and I’ll finish it inside two rounds again.”   Cleverly v Krasniqi, plus Walsh v Harrison and McKenzie v Harrison headline an action-packed card also featuring the return of exciting heavyweight Dereck Chisora; fast rising unbeaten super-middleweight talent Frank Buglioni; former Southern Area Light-Middleweight Champion Steve O’Meara, plus hot unbeaten prospects Joe Murray, John Thain, Gary Corcoran, Mitchell Smith, Joey Taylor and Miles Shinkwin.   Remaining tickets for Rule Britannia, priced from £40 are available from Eventim on 0844 249 1000 or www.eventim.co.uk   Rule Britannia is live and exclusive on The Home of Champions BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).  Join at www.boxnation.com
