Mayweather Sr. : ‘Amir Khan should fight Floyd next’

At the post fight press conference for “The One” PPV in which Floyd Mayweather, nine-time world champion in five weight divisions, showed once again why he is the best fighter in boxing by beating former world champion Saul Canelo Alvarez, Floyd Mayweather Sr., father and trainer to the pound for pound best champion shared his views on his son’s future.

He would go on to suggest that Amir Khan would be best suited to be Floyd’s next opponent and even had an advice for the British superstar who is scheduled to fight Devon Alexander this coming December, “Do you want to get paid better? I’m pretty sure everyone wants to get paid better. So Amir Khan should fight Floyd first.”

It was pointed out that Amir would be picking up a title before he fought Floyd in a future fight if he beat Alexander first, Mayweather Sr. saw no need for an extra title and would reply, “Amir Khan can fight Floyd and it [titles] don’t make no difference, Floyd is going to pay the most money.”

As to the possibility of Floyd going up one more division and challenging one of the top middleweights, Mayweather Sr. dismissed those ideas. “There ain’t no reason for him to fight at 160. He already history, and I’m not saying he won’t beat any of them, but Floyd shouldn’t be going up any more than he is. Because Floyd is really 140 pounder, he’s not 147 pounder. “
