May Day: Mayweather vs. Guerreo Prelims Results Recap
May Day: Mayweather vs.Guerrero MGM Grand Garden Arena
Las Vegas, Nevada
Ronald Gavril (3-0) vs. Roberto Yong (5-6-2)
Super Middleweight Bout – 4 Rounds
The 4th Las Vegas fighter on the card, Gavril, stepped into the ring with Arizona’s, Yong. The Phoenix fighter was mostly on the defensive for the majority of this 168-pound match as Gavril did a fine job of mixing up his attack by targeting both the head and body of his foe. Gavril would strike with left hooks downstairs just long enough for his man to slightly drop his guard, then he would pop him with an overhand right. Gavril kept this rhythm for all of the fight and in the 3rd round found some great success as a hook to the body of Yong hurt the visibly stunned fighter who instantly backed up along the ropes. The undefeated warrior smelled blood and followed up with some clean punches to Yong before referee Russell Mora stepped in to prevent any further punishment.
Result: Ronald Gavril defeats Roberto Yong by TKO at (2:12) of round 3.
Luis Arias (4-0) vs. DonYil Livingston (8-2-1)
Super Middleweight Bout – 6 Rounds
Another Sin City representative in Arias locked horns with California’s, Livingston, in a highly competitive 168-pound contest. Both men had their moments as they pressed forward looking to impose their will on one another landing some good punches. Arias’ speed helped him connect with some clean hooks and uppercuts as he used angles to come in. However, Livingston countered back with crisp right hands and straights down the middle. When the two stood in the center of the ring, they traded hooks at close range and proved to the crowd and one another that they both brought seriously sturdy beards to the bout. The match saw a couple of slips but no clear knock downs as the fighters went the distance in a very entertaining affair.
Luis Arias defeats DonYil Livingston by majority decision. Judges see it (57-57), (58-56) and (58-55).
Badou Jack (13-0) vs. Michael Gbenga (13-7)
Light Heavyweight Bout – 8 Rounds
Another Las Vegan in Badou took on Gbenga for the second bout of the evening. Jack glided along the ring with ease for the first couple of rounds against Gbenga, in and out of the pocket with little regard for any counter attack. Going into the 3rd round, Arias baited his man to open up and when Gbenga threw a straight shot, Jack countered with a picture perfect right hand to the solarplexes of his foe. The devastating shot crumbled Gbenga who went to the canvas but didn’t find his way back up to continue on.
Result: Badou Jack defeats Michael Gbenga by TKO at (2:26) of round 3.
Lanell Bellows (3-0-1) vs. Matthew Garretson
Super Middleweight Bout – 4 Rounds
The opening match of the night featured undefeated Las Vegas resident, Bellows, taking on West Virginia’s, Garretson. Bellows pushed the pace and landed clean shots on his opponent in every round. He stepped on the gas and really worked his offense before the closing of the final round, getting in some good right hand shots on Garretson. Kenny Bayless had seen enough, stepping in to call a halt to the action before the final bell.
Result: Lanell Bellows defeats Matthew Garretson by TKO at (0:32) of round 4.
