The MaxiNutrition Knockout: MEET THE BOXER – LEE DUNCAN
|
London (18 March) Hennessy Sports are proud to introduce Lee Duncan to the MaxiNutrition Knockout, which will be shown live on Channel 5.
Fighting in the second set of MaxiNutrition Knockout quarter finals on March 22 at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, Lee takes on Matty Clarkson for the Central Area light heavyweight title.
Hometown: Sheffield
Professional record: 5 wins, 8 defeats and 2 draws
Nickname: Liquorice Allsorts Kid/Liquorice Kid – Brendan Ingle gave me the name because of my style. It’s got a lot of meaning to it because I can box orthadox, southpaw, I can switch-hit, I can lead off the back hand and throw unorthadox shots.
Titles: Central Area light heavyweight challenger
Career highlight: I’d say entering and taking part in this tournament so far. Aspirations: I want to win the IBF world championship. That’s always been a favourite clour red – so to win that would mean everything to me and fulfill my all time ambition.
Preparations: I’m feeling really good, I’m training really hard, focussed, I’m young, fresh and ready to go.
The MaxiNutrition Knockout: Coming into this competiton, it’s really exciting, you know, Channel 5 and a Mick Hennessy show, so I’m really looking forward to it. It’s all new to me but I think I fit in well – Everybody is in good shape and they’re going to have to be. I’m the youngest in the contest, so I’m fresh and I’m a danger man myself and I think everyone’s aware of that.
Who Lee considers his biggest threat in the competition: I think the main rival is Bob Ajisafe, he’s my chief sparring partner and we’re good friends but I think he has the best chance out of all my competition. We’ve fought before in the amateurs, I know what Bob’s capable of and he knows what I’m capable of as well, which makes it all the more interesting.
What the fans can expect: I’m bringing in a new niche to the market with my style – it’s rare, I’m a good mover and everyone is aware of that, so people come to fight because if they come to box I’m their worst nightmare. I’m good at making people miss and I’m a good counter puncher so I think it will make for an exciting night.
Life outside of boxing: I like to go and relax at the steam room, I like to read books. I’m into my notorious criminal books and autobiographies of successful people, for example Martin Luther King.
I just like to relax and recover for the next session.
I also look at the FTSE 100 and keep myself refreshed from what I learnt at University for when I go back in September to complete the Masters course.
I go out with friends, I like to visit different cities and explore, go for a bit of shopping, different restuarants and just chill out.
I go to the cinema most Wednesday’s two for one, I grab a latte and watch the new films.
Favourite films: I’ve got a few, probably a bit of Denzel Washington, I like his films, Man on Fire was a really good film. I love Raging Bull with Robert De Niro based on Jake LaMotta and the mob.
I also like comedies, Eddie Griffin and Eddie Murphy. But I’ll watch most things, from Finding Nemo to Scarface.
Favourite music: I like Ray Charles, James Brown – they’re jazzy, they’re quirky and it’s real music.
