Masternak makes Polish return against Fields on April 2 in Krakow
Mateusz Masternak (36-4, 26 KOs) will be fighting on home soil for the first time in four years when he returns to Poland to face the American power-puncher Eric ‘Danger’ Fields (24-3, 16 KOs) on April 2 as part of the Polsat Boxing Night at the Tauron Arena in Krakow.
‘’I’m very grateful that my promoter Kalle Sauerland has given me this opportunity. After four years, I will finally be back boxing in Poland,’’ said the 28 year-old from Wroclaw. ‘’Recently, I have been fighting overseas in my opponent’s territories and that can make a big difference in boxing.
‘’I can’t wait to be back fighting in front of my home crowd. Their support will give me a huge boost, and I promise to deliver them an unforgettable performance.’’
Masternak is back in action following a narrow points defeat to Tony Bellew for the European Cruiserweight title, a result the Polish fighter contests.
‘’I believe I won the fight,’’ he says. ‘’I was the better boxer – faster, stronger and more aggressive, but I understand, as the home fighter, Bellew may have been given some of the even rounds. However, I don’t accept the loss, and I’m sure the people making me offers for future bouts can see this too.’’
With this European title disappointment behind him, Masternak’s attention now turns to his upcoming opponent Fields, as he looks to build momentum for another title charge in 2016.
‘’Fields is a good boxer,’’ said the ‘Master’. ‘’He’s always dangerous in the first half of fights but seems to fade in the later stages. His main advantage is his strength, but his biggest weakness is his endurance and conditioning, which I plan to exploit.’’
Promoter Kalle Sauerland is predicting a sensational homecoming for the popular Polish fighter.‘’Mateusz has always done things the hard way and has never shied away from a challenge,’’ said Sauerland. ‘’He has a huge fan base in Poland and we’re delighted to be working with Polsat to deliver him this homecoming fight. Mateusz will be eager to impress, and we expect him to be back to his devastating best.’’
