Marston-Gulyas Title Clash Heads Up Dave Murphy London October 25th Mega Event
CAPITAL PUNISHMENT
MARIANNE MARSTON Vs. MARIANNA GULYAS
MBC International Super Bantamweight Championship
25th October 2014 @ York Hall, Bethnal Green, London
London’s Marianne Marston is set to challenge Hungary’s Marianna Gulyas for the vacant MBC International Super Bantamweight Championship, which will take place on the upcoming Dave Murphy Acourtier Events promoted CAPITAL PUNISHMENT mega event at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 25th October 2014.
Woolwich’s Marston will be looking to secure a solid victory in front of a home crowd to get her World title dream back on track, following the shock loss to Hana Horacova back in March.
Marston had been odds on favourite to secure the WBU European Featherweight title, against Horacova, however fate dealt the TRAD TKO trained battler a nightmare of a hand to overcome, after she ruptured the Piriformis muscle mid way through the third round.
Up to that point the gutsy South Londoner utterly dominated proceedings, mind you she didn’t do too badly, even with the injury handicap, for the next round or two, but by round six it was clear that the injury had a major effect on her ability to move properly, which the savvy Horacova took major advantage off, by going hard on the offensive until the final bell.
Somehow Marston managed to stay the course, only to see her dream of being crowned WBU European Champion fade away when the judges scorecards were read out, judges Ken Curtis and Seamus Dunne scoring in favour of Horacova, 75-78 and 76-77 respectively with judge Billy Phillips scoring the bout 77-76 in favour of Marston.
However late last month Marston’s World Championship aspirations were thrown a lifeline, as the MBC and various World Sanctioning organisations continued to rank her for Championship eligibility.
However, first she will have to get past Gulyus, an experienced Championship boxer – having competed for the EBU European title at two weights as well as the IBF Inter-Continental title at Featherweight previously – who is World ranked some twenty places above the gutsy Londoner.
The stacked support card includes the long awaited rematch between Finsbury Park’s Mark ‘The Flash’ Alexander and Crawley’s Rockin’ Robin Deakin.
When they first faced each other, back in March ’09, it was Alexander that was declared victor, however with a solid eight week camp to prepare, Deakin believes that this time it will be him receiving the victory laurels.
Another match up that is sure to whet the appetite of any true boxing fan is the Light Heavyweight contest between London based Turk Onder Ozgul and Scunthorpe’s Matthew Pepper, a toe to toe Battle Royale from first bell to last is guaranteed with this one, that’s for sure.
Also on the support card is Onder’s younger sibling, exciting Light Middleweight star Siar Ozgul, who is set to face his toughest test yet, when he takes on Nottingham’s Matt Scriven.
A truly talented youngster, Siar already has four top class wins under his belt since turning pro in October last year.
Former Team GB amateur captain Antonio Counihan makes his fourth pro outing, against a yet to be named opponent. The 23 year old from Solihull has made a fantastic start to his pro career – winning all three bouts to date, two by stoppage finish – so much so that he is being lined up for an early shot at a title for early next year.
Former American Basketball star Manny Muhammad will be looking to make further strides in his second pro sporting career, having won both his bouts to date, including the sensational victory over previously unbeaten prospect Vaidas Balciauskas.
Sensational power puncher Nathan Decastro will be back in action, he too will be looking to continue his unbeaten record, having secured two maiden victories, including a sensational first round stoppage of Paulius Butvidas back in March this year.
Exciting former amateur star Matar Sambou makes his second pro outing, following his first round stoppage of Tadas Stulginkas on August 2nd.
Derby’s British Masters Super Flyweight Champion and World title challenger Juliette Winter makes her welcome return to York Hall, the scene of her Fight of the Year nominated battle against Shanee Martin back in ’07.
Last but not least, making his much anticipated professional debut is Hainault, Essex Cruiserweight Jerome Haywood, who could be set for a baptism of fire as he is set to face Ireland’s John Waldron.
Watch this space, as further bouts are expected to be announced shortly, including the return of exciting Light Welterweight prospect Dave Pereira and Tottenham Welterweight Joel Ani.
Sanctioning for this event will be provided courtesy of the Malta Boxing Commission (MBC).
