Lopez Out, Rod Salka to Face Justin Savi Saturday at WFC 57 in Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA – August 26, 2016 – “Lightening” Rod Salka goes into today’s WFC 57 weigh-in preparing for a new foe in Justin Savi (28-6-2, 18KO) at the Meadows Racetrack and Casino tomorrow evening. His original opponent for the eight round, main event bout was Wilberth Lopez, who is unable to compete due to a medical issue.
Savi is no stranger to coming in at the 11th hour, and did so to face Jhonny Gonzalez earlier this year. The 31 year old, former WBC Silver Featherweight Champion steps into the ring with with 36 bouts and 15 years’ experience as a professional boxer under his belt, and makes for a formidable opponent for Salka.
Salka was unfazed by the change. “The stakes haven’t changed. This opponent has been in with better opposition, but I’ve prepared and I’m ready. It’s not going to make a difference the outcome of the fight.”
World Fighting Championships’ founder and promoter Matt McGovern was pleased with the turn of events. “Salka-Lopez was a great fight, and the last minute change could have been a bad thing, but Salka-Savi has the potential to be an even better fight,” said McGovern. “Hats off to both fighters for being willing to fight tough, and for giving the fans an exciting main event.”
Tickets for WFC 57 begin at $25, and are available along with VIP tables via ticketfly.com.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. on fight night. First bell is at 7:00 p.m.
