Lenny daws to ‘send a message’ in european title fight
LONDON – Lightning Lenny Daws is looking to “send a message” and push on towards world honours.
The Carshalton light-welterweight fights Michele Di Rocco for the European title June 8, Brindisi, Italy and has been in preparation since the beginning of the year after several delays.
“It has been frustrating but it just pushed me through the training, it made me train harder and made me want it even more now, so I’m in better shape having had more time and it really has made me even hungrier,” Lenny said.
“I feel better than I did years ago, I feel so confident, I’m feeling stronger, fitter.
“We’ve been on it since January – five months we’ve been in the gym and we’ve been training so hard for this, I’m not going to let it slip”.
After multiple re-scheduling Lenny will finally get his long awaited European light-welterweight title shot this weekend.
But, in Di Rocco, he meets a man who boasts 34 wins with 15 knockouts, with only the single defeat and one draw to his name.
The Italian will certainly not want to lose his title in front of his home crowd, but Lenny is determined and focussed to the challenge ahead.
“With it being the European title, it’s a big title for me to win and I know that big things can come off of this and I know that if I can go out there and look good it’s going to send a message out to everyone,” Lenny said.
“Big things can come from this title, so I’m looking to impress and really show my stuff – I’m going to go out there and do a job on this fella.
“This is a big opportunity and this fella is going to be in trouble”.
OPI 2000 are promoting the event and the night is also scheduled to include the EBU super-middleweight title contest between Italy based Senegalese fighter Mohamed Ali Ndiaye and Frenchman Christophe Rebrasse.
