LANGFORD LOOKING TO CUT DOWN FORMER EUBANK FOE SWIERZBINSKI IN QUICK TIME IN TITLE DEFENCE
WBO Intercontinental Middleweight Champion Tommy Langford aims to take out his challenger Robert Swierzbinski in quicker time than rival Chris Eubank Jnr did.
The hard-hitting Bideford ace, who fights out of Birmingham, makes the second defence of his title against the Polish hardman on Saturday 19th December on the massive Manchester Arena card.
Unbeaten Langford is rising fast through the 160lb ranks and now aims to make a big statement against Swierzbinksi who fought Eubank Jnr last May. Eubank dropped him seven times but couldn’t deliver a conclusive punch to finish him off with the referee eventually called a halt in the seventh round.
Langford says he’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t knockout Swierzbinksi in quicker time than Eubank Jnr as he looks to confirm his position as the next big star in the division.
“To be honest I won’t be happy with my performance if I don’t stop him,” stated Langford.
“I’m setting my personal standards high and if he went seven rounds with Eubank I definitely want to finish him off in half that time,”
“David Lemieux finished him off in a round, I’m not saying I’ll do it that quick, but I want to make a good statement with this fight,”
“He seems to get hit and dropped, but he has this resilience to keep going and seems to get stopped on his feet rather on the canvas so once I land and floor him, he’ll stay down,”
“He’s open to big counter punches and I’m looking to take him out.”
Frank Warren’s end of year title extravaganza ‘X-Mas Cracker’ is headlined by two massive world title showdowns with WBO World Middleweight Champion Andy Lee defending his title against Billy Joe Saunders and WBO World Super-Welterweight Champion Liam Smith making his first title defence against Jimmy Kelly. A staggering SIX further titles are on the line with Mitchell Smith defending his WBO Intercontinental Super-Featherweight title against George Jupp; Paul Butler challenges for the Vacant WBO European Super-Flyweight Championship against Silvio Olteanu; Tommy Langford defends his WBO Intercontinental Middleweight Championship against Robert Swierzbinkski; Commonwealth Super-Welterweight Champion Liam Williams and Kris Carslaw clash with the Vacant British title also on the line; Jack Catterall defends his WBO Intercontinental Super-Lightweight Championship, and Tom Stalker and Craig Evans clash again for the Vacant WBO European Lightweight Championship. The undercard features Merseyside favourite Joe Selkirk in a six-round contest, Indian superstar Vijender Singh, Anthony Yarde and top Manchester prospects Jack Flattley and Dale Coyne, plus Razza Hamza.
