Joseph Landeros closes the year with 12 wins and 12 knockouts
Alberto “Aguila” Lozano and Rafael “Indio” Proaño with successful presentations in “La Defensa de Chihuahua”
The young promise of Riverside, California, Joseph Landeros, closed the year 2017 with a perfect record of 12 wins and 12 knockouts, after knocking out Jairo Gutierrez in the third round in the boxing card named “La Defensa de Chihuahua”, last Friday at the Arena Coliseo in Chihuahua, Mexico.
The event was presented by MM Promotions, in conjunction with Boxing Club Promotions.
For the “Tiger” as the Landeros -16 years old- is knonw, it was the fourth city of the Mexican territory he has visited, after fighting in Tijuana, Aguascalientes and Culiacán, Sinaloa.
The card was headed by the fight between Mario Alberto “Aguila” Lozano, from Chihuahua and Julio César “Vikingo” Ávalos, from Guadalajara and backed by a co-main event between Rafael “Indio” Proaño from Chihuahua against Armando “Dumbo” Cardona, from Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico.
Both local fighters successfully “defended” their hometown. Lozano beat Ávalos in a fight that went the 10 round distance, while Proaño dispatched his rival in two minutes of action.
The fight between Landeros and Gutierrez was presented as a “Special Attraction” fight, on a night where the temperature inside the venue presented one of the coldest conditions for a boxing card, with a temperature of approximately 1 degree Celcius inside the arena.
Landeros rushed his opponent from the first bell, leger slowing the pace, to overcome Gutierrez with speed, movement and power shots, in a Super Bantam scrap.
After a constant stalking, finally, a straight right to the solar plexus, dropped Gutierrez to his knees for the final count at the 31 second mark of the third round. With the defeat, the fighter from Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, fell to a 6-8 record.
“Because of the anxiety and the desire to warm up quickly, I think I hurried at the beginning, but my corner calmed down and then I was able to work more slowly. I think it was a great experience, due to the conditions of the arena, a new public and an opponent that allowed me to show some of my advances in the ring,” said Landeros.
“For now, I’ll rest the rest of 2017 and after the year-end festivities, I’ll return to the gym to continue learning. I’m not fooled by my record, I know that there are much more difficult tests to come, but if it’s satisfying to see that the preparation and sacrifice before the fights, are paying off.” concluded the Californian fighter who hopes to debut in the United States in 2018, once he is 17 years old.
In the main event, scheduled for 10 rounds, Mario Alberto Lozano (31-8-0) managed to control the elusive and fast style of “Viking” Ávalos (17-6-0) and after three close rounds, he was more effective in his attacks, emerging with a unanimous decision victory, with cards of 99-91, 97-93 and 98-92, in fight in the Super Welter division.
In the co-main event, Rafael Proaño (11-2-3), like Landeros, beat Armando Cardona (14-19-1) with an explosive right in the stomach over the second minute of the second round, ending the Lightweight bout.

In another fight, Ángel Hernandez, considered as “The future of the boxing in Chihuahua”, improved his mark to 4-0, with 3 knockouts, beating Alonzo Gutierrez (0-3), of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora by knockout. With total control of the action and a two-handed attack, Hernandez knocked out Gutierrez at the 57th second of the first round.
