Jose “Chon” Zepeda’s Quest for the World Title!
By: Ruben Vielman and Javier Molina
Last time we saw Jose Zepeda he was beating his opponent Francisco “Verdugo” Perez in a devastating fashion just like his prior fight against Josue “The Prodigy” Vargas.
Vargas was a rising star with a lot of momentum and was on the center stage to be the next Puerto Rican star if he could defeat Zepeda. The odds were slightly in Vargas’s favor to the point that some of the public felt that the Top Rank promotion was in Vargas’s favor as well. Having the fight in his hometown, New York City many thought that the hometown advantage would have played a role in the final outcome. Once the bell rang Vargas was nowhere near Zepeda’s level. An immediate knock down, along with constant pressure and relentless punches, led to the end of the fight in just the first round! The seasoned veteran fighter was just too much for the prospect to handle. One thing that Jose told Vargas leading to the fight was that there’s levels to this and that proved to be right on that night. Jose Chon Zepeda proved to be at another level above Vargas. Hopefully the young Puerto Rican can learn from this and come back stronger than ever.
Zepeda is well known for taking on the best Light Welterweights boxing has to offer from: Jose Ramirez, Jose Pedraza, and how can we forget about the war he had against Ivan Baranchyk. This match won Fight of the Year with eight knock downs in five rounds. This was a true modern day boxing classic. This led Zepeda to win the WBC Silver Light Welterweight title. It appears that there is another big fight brewing against Zepeda and Regis “Rougarou” Prograis, former World Champion. This would be without a doubt one of the biggest fights in the division. Zepeda is always looking to fight the best and this is no different. Winning the fight will put him next in line for a World Title fight. Boxing fans are anticipating his next fight due to his fan friendly style.
Zepeda is a true Knock Out Artist who belongs in the biggest fights the light welterweight Division has to offer. Fans are hungry to see him fight the best and there is no doubt that he is currently in the prime of his boxing career.
