Jessica “Jag” Aguilar excited about UFC 190 debut
One of the best woman straw-weight in the world former WSOF champion Jessica “Jag” Aquilar (19-4-0) will be making her debut on UFC 190: Rousey vs Correia, August 1st against tough Brazilian Claudia Gadelha (12-1-0). Claudia will be coming off her only loss to UFC straw-weight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk by a close split decision back in December, 2014.
“Its an honor to be representing the UFC logo. I am really excited to be going in there and to keep doing what doing, which is winning and proving why I am the best straw weight in the world. I am really grateful for the opportunity and I can’t wait to showcase my skills on August 1st against Claudia”.
With a brown belt in Brazilian jujitsu under the tutelage of Ricardo Liborio, Jessica has a lot of respect for Claudia but is excited to prove her worth in the UFC.
“She is a good opponent. She has her black belt in Brazilian jujitsu, she’s strong. Its a great match-up, she has never competed against someone as well rounded as me. A lot of respect as always. I am excited to be fighting an opponent like that”.
Since her controversial split decision loss to Zoila Frausto on Bellator fighting championship 31, Aguilar has had a 10 fight win streak with wins over Ultimate fighter 20 alumni Lisa Ellis and Carla Esparza who went on to win TUF 20.
In January of 2014 she became the WSOF woman’s straw weight champion by defeating Alida Gray. She defended her title twice before making her move to the UFC.
Beating a top rated contender like Claudia may catapult Jessica to fighting for a world championship sooner than expected.
A former correction officer and aspiring actress with appearances on the Showtime series Dexter, Jessica gave a brief description on how she got involved in the world of MMA.
“Just to make the story really short for acting. I joined a boxing gym, I got late to one of my cardio classes that I used to take. I took a Brazilain jujitsu competition and then a few months later I was offered an MMA fight with 5 days notice. I fought Lisa Ward who had just got released recently from the UFC. She was the top ten of the world at that time. I had 5 days to train for that fight. I lost that fight and I continued doing it and here I am today”.
The first match up on the PPV card, Aguilar gave an incite of what to expect. “I am going to leave it all in there and I am going to get my hand raised. It’s going to be an exciting match up. Don’t miss it, August 1st on PPV, I will be starting the PPV so I am really excited”.
