Isaac Zarate Stars in “Locked n’ Loaded” Main Event this Friday, Doubletree Ontario
ORANGE, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2015) – Isaac Zarate, former keeper of the NABF Junior 122-pound title, finds himself in the first main event of his young career this Friday, Oct. 23 against Mexico’s Heriberto Delgado. The 8-round “Locked n’ Loaded” main event caps off a six fight card from the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif.
Zarate, a southpaw from San Pedro, Calif., is coming off a masterful knockout win against Jesus Serrano in July. Zarate landed a crushing left hook to the body that sent Serrano crumbling to the floor. On Friday, Zarate looks to push his winning streak to six.
“All the hard work is in the books,” said the 24-year-old. “I’ve worked hard to get to this point. I feel good about where I am and I look forward to performing on Friday night.”
While Zarate (12-1-1, 2 KOs) has settled into a nice comfort zone over his last five fights, the same cannot be said about Delgado (11-3, 6 KOs). He is marred in a three fight losing skid dating back to last August.
“An animal is most dangerous when it’s wounded,” Zarate said. “I think Delgado will come out aggressive. I’ve seen him fight live a couple of times. He likes to fight at a fast pace and has a good left hook.”
In order to prepare for Delgado, Zarate and his team instituted new combinations, placed a higher importance on developing speed, and spent considerable time on conditioning drills.
“Delgado is tall for the division so we want to take away his distance,” Zarate said. “We’ll show him different looks and make sure he never gets comfortable.”
In the co-feature, undefeated heavyweight sensation and knockout kingpin LaRon Mitchell (9-0, 9 KOs) of San Francisco hopes to keep his KO winning streak alive when we meets the equally powerful Quincy Palmer (9-7, 9 KOs) of Little Rock, Ark. (6-rounds).
