HUGHIE LEWIS FURY VS SHANE MCPHILBIN ADDED TO THE KID GALAHAD UNDERCARD

live on Channel 5 from 8pm.

PETER FURY: “EXPECT TO SEE THE BEST HUGHIE FURY TO DATE”

London (16 August) Peter Fury believes young heavyweight star Hughie Lewis Fury is not your “average 18-year-old” and is “100 percent ready” for Shane McPhilbin.

Hughie takes on the former British cruiserweight champion over eight rounds on theKid Galahad undercard at the Magna Centre, Rotherham, September 14th, live on Channel 5 from 8pm in his first big step up as a pro.

“Shane’s a tough lad and he’s got a lot of experience in the amateurs and in the pros,” Peter Fury said.

“He comes to fight, so I imagine with the training he must be doing, he’ll be on form.

“But, 100 percent Hughie is ready for this challenge – he’s not just an average 18-year-old – you can expect to see the best Hughie Fury to date.”

The unbeaten teenager, who outpointed Moses Matovu in his last contest, will be aiming to improve to nine straight victories since his debut in March and McPhilbin will be the first British fighter he has faced.

McPhilbin, 27, is a dangerous opponent, boasting a professional record that includes  eight wins with five knockouts.

The former British cruiserweight champion will certainly not be looking for anything less than a win.

Having faced the likes of Michael Sprott and Enzo Maccarinelli, McPhilbin brings a wealth of experience to the ring and poses a big test for the young star.

“You can expect an exciting night and people are going to see a bit more of Hughie and what he can do,” Peter said.

“It’s going to be good as people can then gauge the progress of an 18-year-old crashing onto the heavyweight scene.

“It’s a signal of intent for Hughie, he’s a former British champion, very tough and has fought and knocked down the likes of Enzo Maccarinelli.

“It’s a step up for Hughie and he’s looking forward to it and it will be interesting to see how he copes with the step up in class.”

The 6’7” Hughie is in Belgium helping his cousin Tyson Fury prepare for his September 28th showdown with David Haye at the Phones 4 U Arena Manchester.

Focussed on one day beating Mike Tyson’s infamous record of becoming the youngest world heavyweight champion, Hughie’s attention is now on McPhilbin.

“I’m absolutely delighted with the progress Hughie Fury is making in such a short space of time,” Mick Hennessy said.

“He is proving at such a young age that he is already the best young heavyweight prospect in world boxing and I’m sure he’ll demonstrate that again on September 14thwith this step up in his career.”

Also supporting Galahad at Magna will be middleweight sensation Chris Eubank Jr in his 11th professional contest, with an undercard featuring a whole host of local talent.
