Tyron Zeuge (18-0, 10 KOs) will challenge Giovanni De Carolis (24-6, 12 KOs) for the WBA World Super Middleweight title on July 16 at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin.
The 23 year-old, who is trained by WBA World Light Heavyweight Champion Juergen Braehmer, takes on the tough Italian, who claimed the WBA strap with an eleventh-round TKO win over the highly-rated German fighter Vincent Feigenbutz.
If successful, Zeuge will make history by becoming Germany’s youngest ever World Champion, beating Graciano ‘Rocky’ Rocchigiani’s record of 24 years and 73 days by 8 days.
‘’This is the opportunity of a lifetime,’’ said Zeuge. ‘’Whether I’m ready for it, other people will have to judge. But one thing is for certain, on July 16, I will give everything to fulfill my dream of becoming World Champion.’’
The Berlin boxer’s coach Juergen Braehmer believes his protégé is ready for the challenge. ‘’Based on his potential, there is no better boxer in Germany than Zeuge,’’ said the two-time World Champion. ‘’I believe he is ready to make history by taking this title!’’
Braehmer can also make history on July 16, as never has an active World Champion coached another boxer to World title success.
Promoter Kalle Sauerland is thrilled to have delivered his young star a World title opportunity. ‘’Between the European Football Championships and the Olympic Games, we have another sporting highlight for the summer,’’ said Sauerland. ‘’Tyron Zeuge is leading the way for a new generation of World-class German boxers, and by beating De Carolis, he can take his place among the best in the World.’’
Tickets for the WBA World Super Middleweight title contest between Tyron Zeuge and Giavanni De Carolis go on sale shortly and will be available via www.eventime.de andwww.tickethalle.de.
