Georges St-Pierre Gives Up Welterweight Belt,Takes Indefinite Leave
Considered the greatest welterweight champion in mixed martial arts history, George “Rush” St. Pierre has announce that he will be vacating the UFC welterweight championship indefinitely to take care of some personal problems in a conference call today with UFC president Dana White. George explained that he can’t stay mentally prepared at the top of the competition with all his personal issues and has decided to take some time off to handle those issues.
George won the title back in 2009 and has defended it 9 times. For now he leaves the sport with a record of 25-2 and hasn’t lost in over 6 years.
Dana White also announced that Johnny Hendricks will be facing Robbie Lawler for the vacant UFC welterweight championship at Dallas, Texas on March 15th, 2014. A fight in which he said “Will be an absolute gunfight”.
