Floyd “Money” Mayweather vs. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao — Fight Week Updates
We are only days away from quite possibly the biggest boxing event in history and “The Fight Of The Century” taking place live this Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. As the sand flows through the hour glass news continues to develop from the “Fight Capital” of the world.
Boxeomundial .com continues its ongoing coverage with news involving the event. Here is the latest “MayPac” information available as we are just days out …
Live Event Tickets Gone In 60 Seconds
Gone in 60 Seconds might be the name of a popular movie starring Nick Cage and Angelina Jolie, but that title now belongs to the box office juggernaut known simply as “MayPac”.
This past Thursday, April 23rd, the phones and internet went live for the selling of the live gate at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. While only 500 tickets were available to the general public it took a minute for them to fly off the shelves.
Resell of Fight Tickets
With these tickets being in such high demand it was only a matter of minutes before the base price tickets of $1,500.00 went on ebay.com for $6,000.00 and $7,000.00
As this goes to print the most expensive tickets on ebay.com sold as a set of 4 tickets in March for $78,411.00 in section 15 of the MGM Grand Garden Arena. There was another pair of tickets sold for $63,500.00 in April in section 11.
What is staggering is that there was a listing for a pair of tickets in Row E on the floor of the arena going for just under a quarter of a million dollars up until this past weekend. Those tickets are no longer available for sale as of yesterday.
Weigh-In Tickets Fly Off the Shelves Too
It wasn’t 60 seconds but it did take just 75 minutes for tickets to this Friday’s weigh-in to be completely sold out when they went on sale Friday, April 24th at noon pacific time.
Our MGM Grand sources tell us that it might have been faster had the phone lines not crashed the night before during selling of the event tickets. That spilled over unto Friday so people who fortunately got through to the MGM Grand box office or were in line with the other 500 people inside the casino waiting to purchase lucked out picking up their $10.00 ticket. A part of the proceeds goes to Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health and the Susan G. Komen cancer research.
Resell of Weigh-In Tickets
Just like its predecessor it only took minutes for the $10.00 tickets to the weigh-in to go on sale on eBay.com and Stubhub as well as Craig’s List. On Craig’s List they we listed for $1,000.00 apiece. On Stubhub they went for as low as $130.00 to as high as $700.00. Finally, on eBay the best sale was a set of 10 tickets for $910.00.
We also learned that due to this ticket controversy the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will be on hand searching for ticket scalpers to both events. One, for the resell of weigh-in tickets and also since counterfeit Mayweather vs. Pacquiao tickets has hit the streets and the internet.
Merchandise Sales Soar At MGM Grand
The official MayPac merchandise for the “Fight of the Century” has sold just above $220,000.00 per our sources at the MGM Grand Resort & Hotel. Not only is this an outstanding number but if the items remain on this financial trajectory they might very well clear half a million dollars by fight night, if not more.
Sadly, a bootlegger was arrested for selling counterfeit Mayweather vs. Pacquiao t-shirts this past weekend.
As a public service announcement to all of our fight fans and loyal readers, please be aware that “fake” or “counterfeit” boxing t-shirts normally have graphics on the backside of the t-shirt. Those are usually an image from the internet of both headliners if not a moderate copy of the poster image plus the name, date of birth, height and fighter’s boxing record.
That is it for now fight fans. Please stay tuned to Boxeomundial.com and follow us on Twitter for all of the up to the minute combat sports news and information.
