Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao — The Latest Updates
For all of the loyal and faithful followers of the mega fight simply known as “MayPac” or “MayweatherPacquiao” we will post as much content as possible whenever it becomes available in order to enrich and enhance all boxing aficionados’ upcoming fight parties with news, tidbits and insider notes from the ring post down to the locker room entrance. Here are the latest offerings of information available…
Individual Fighters Announcements
With the event serving as a rare occasion where business triumphed over even the greatest of obstacles leaving fans with a joint venture-style PPV from both Showtime and HBO, it was agreed that each main event contestant will be announced by their respective premium cable company’s recognized voice.
Per our conversation with Jimmy Lennon Jr., This means that when Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (57-5-2) is introduced in the ring on the night of Saturday, May 2nd from the MGM Grand Garden Arena, it will be by Philadelphia’s own, Michael Buffer. Then, when Floyd “Money” Mayweather (47-0) is announced in the ring immediately after, it will be by California native, Jimmy Lennon Jr.
This also indicates that if Mayweather were to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification, the announcer of such news would again be Jimmy Lennon Jr. Should Pacquiao triumph via the same result; it would be announced by Michael Buffer.
The surprise factor of course will truly come into play regarding which talented announcer would declare the victor should the match go the judge’s score cards. This will bring even more excitement and earth-shattering anticipation since an agreement on how that will be orchestrated has yet to be disclosed.
Cost Of The Pay Per View
A local Las Vegas advertisement on the subscribers to Dish Network’s menu points to the retail price of the live PPV event to be set at $89.99 for regular definition and $99.99 for high-definition. The CEO of Top Rank Promotions, Mr. Bob Arum, was quoted a few weeks ago as saying that the PPV would, “not be more than $100.00”. It would appear that at the $99.99 figure, the promoter has made good on his word.
News has yet to develop on whether one of the alcoholic beverages sponsoring the event will have a mail-in rebate with proof of purchase which has been available for major boxing PPVS in the past.
The most expensive PPV fight of either Floyd or Manny’s career to date has been “Mayweather vs. Maidana 2: Mayhem ”, which cost $64.99 for regular and $74.99 for hi-def viewing.
Only MGM Grand Properties Can Legally Show The PPV The Night Of May 2nd
As Yahoo sports documented, if you are in Sin City on fight night and weren’t able to pick up a ticket to the live event at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, your only options for closed circuit viewing will be:
The Aria
The Bellagio
The Excalibur
The Luxor
The Mandalay Bay
The Mirage
The Monte Carlo
The New York, New York
If you happened to book a hotel room in any property not listed above, then you will have to make the walk, catch a taxi or somehow find your way into another spot because ordering the PPV in your hotel room will NOT be an option. It has to be an MGM Resorts property.
Now, while this may put a slight damper on many out-of-towners visiting the Vegas desert to catch the action and indulge in the ambiance of fight night, it will likely just serve as a challenge to put on their walking shoes and familiarize themselves with the landscape of MGM Grand’s sister casinos.
