Florian on Cyborg: “The big thing is the weight cut. it’s one thing to make weight, another to fight at it.”
Los Angeles – UFC TONIGHT host Kenny Florian and guest host Tyron Woodley interview Cris Cyborg, who’s headlining this weekend’s FS1 UFC FIGHT NIGHT: CYBORG VS. LANSBERG, as well as heavyweight Roy Nelson. Karyn Bryant adds reports.
UFC TONIGHT guest host Tyron Woodley on Cris Cyborg vs. Lina Lansberg: “Lina has nothing to lose in this fight. She’s known for her elbows, and that’s perfect game plan for fighting Cyborg, who walks straight at you. Cyborg is known for walking through punches, but I haven’t seen her get elbowed yet.”
UFC TONIGHT host Kenny Florian on Lansberg’s strengths: “She’s very tough, tenacious, has decent speed, won’t be overwhelmed and will keep her cool in the fight. She’s been in five-round fights before. She’s excellent in the clinch, but has to get there. To fight Cyborg on the on the outside and on the ground, she’ll will have the disadvantage. She needs to get in the clinch.”
Woodley on Cyborg: “Cyborg has the most vicious ground and pound I’ve ever seen from a woman. She’s fighting in Brazil. We’ll see her get going for the crowd. Don’t take that calm for kindness.”
Florian on how Cyborg should fight: “For Cyborg, she’s been patient in her recent fights. In the past we’ve seen her go berserker. But she seems more patient recently, slipping punches. But the big thing is the weight cut. How will she feel? It’s one thing to make weight, and another to fight at it.”

Cris Cyborg on her weight cut: “I’m getting down. It’ll be ok.”
Cyborg on being asked annoying questions: “First it was always about Ronda and now I get asked about the weight. Both are annoying.”
Cyborg on her weight cutting struggles: “This time we used birth control. I hold more water, and have less time to make 140. I think it’ll be ok. I trust George Lockhart. I hope everything will be ok on Friday.”
Cyborg on fighting Lansberg: “She’s coming from striking. This match is good because I like striking too.”
Cyborg on if fighting for a title is still important: “For me, the belt is important, but it’s more nice making super fights for all fans to watch.”
Cyborg on if she’ll ever fight Ronda Rousey: “Before when she was the champion she said she wanted to fight me. She said come to 135. Maybe we can fight at 140. You can’t be selfish. This fight is not for me and her, it’s for all the fans. All the fans are waiting for her.”

Woodley on Renan Barao fighting Phillipe Nover: “You can’t count Barao out. He’s been a champion before. He’s shown he’s a world class fighter. But Phillipe Nover is coming in and trying to put it on him.”
Florian on if Barao is in a desperate situation: “Barao needs a win and he knows that. He’s feeling the heat. He can turn it on and he needs to get back to the aggression.”
Roy Nelson on if he has advice for Cyborg cutting weight: “Yeah, you just fight a weight above you.”
Nelson on the challenges that Silva poses to him: “The challenges he offers are everything. He’s a complete mixed martial artist. He’s beat the best. He’s knocked out Overeem. He beat Fedor. It’s heavyweight. You can win some and lose some, but you’ve got to watch.”
Nelson on what a victory over Bigfoot would mean: “It puts me on a three-fight win streak and right at the top, fighting for the belt.”
Nelson on fighting on so many international cards: “Anytime you fight internationally, it’s not the best. I thought I was over this. For the two years before this I was headlining Japan cards. It’s not the best scenario for a fighter.”
Nelson on how he’d improve USADA: “You just have to get rid of the excess at the top. Then I’d pay the fighters the extra money, and just call people up and tell them who to test. It’s not that hard.”
Nelson on what he thought about filming the Kickboxer movie with Jean Claude Van Damme: “He’s an older guy and he can still kick. After this fight, he wants to come down and teach me how to bring more kicking in my fights.”

Tyron Woodley on his confidence going into the title fight: “It came from knowing you’ve done everything to prepare and left no stone unturned, Understanding your opponent and yourself. I felt like it was my time. Robbie was fighter of the year for a reason. He’s a friend of mine, a guy I respect. But I felt there was no way I was going to walk out without it.”
Woodley on how he’s preparing for Thompson and being an underdog: “I don’t think I’ll be the underdog before the fight, when they see how I train and what I’m bringing to the fight. Those odds will change when they see the fighter spirit in me. His fight style has been frustrating for a lot of people.”
Woodley on accepting the fight with Thompson: “We’re fighting at Madison Square Garden, I promise that. I never said I wasn’t fighting him and I never turned it down. The first time I was offered that fight, I accepted it.”
