MACHO-HIGHLIGHTSHector “Macho” Camacho, who thrilled the world with a brilliant career and unique flamboyance…died one year ago.

Nobody could believe it, Puerto Rico woke baffled. One of the greatest stars in boxing, Hector ‘Macho’ Camacho, had been shot and was fighting for his life in the San Juan Medical Center.

Various sources report that then former world champion, had  been the victim of a shooting in which one of his companions, Alberto Mojica, was killed instantly, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.

At the time, Ernesto Torres, director of the hospital, informed of the severity of the injuries of Camacho and two days later, on November 22nd, Hector was declared brain dead.

Hector’s characteristically brave fight for life, was waged with a titanic tenacity which defined the man. But some fights are just not possible to win. His family had to take the heart rending decision to disconnect the ventilator that was keeping the rest of his organs still functioning.

‘Macho’ who brilliantly defeated a glittering array of stars including: Rafael Limón, José Luis Ramírez, Edwin Rosario, Ray Mancini, Roberto Durán and Sugar Ray Leonard, had lost the battle for his life.

He was defeated by Julio César Chávez, Félix ‘Tito’ Trinidad and Óscar de la Hoya, but never, ever humbled.

Hector built an incredible and memorable record of 79-6-3 and 38 KO’s.
His sons, Héctor Camacho and Christian are also boxers, following in Dad’s path.

Hector Macho Camacho will never be forgotten!
