ESPN Thursday Night Fight Results
Hialeah Park was back in the international spotlight when ESPN’s Thursday Night Fights returned to this iconic venue with an action-packed evening of fights that gave the fans their money’s worth.
In the main event, undefeated Fredrick “General Okunka” Lawson (24-0, 20 KOs) of Ghana defeated the 31 year old Breidis “El Khanqueror” Prescott (27-6, 20 KOs) of Colombia by split decision. Judges ringside Roark Young and Mike Ross scored the fight 95-94 for Lawson while Judge Richard Green scored it 96-93 for Prescott.
This was Lawson’s third fight in the United States since moving from Ghana last year and once again he proved he didn’t need a friendly surrounding to win. This victory is surely viewed as one step closer to a title shot in a weight class full of talent.
Prescott, now fighting out of Miami, won his first 21 fights of his professional career before losing back-to-back outings in late 2009. He’s won three out of his last five fights since the start of 2012 so a lot was riding on this fight. He’ll want to get in the ring as soon as the wounds of battle have healed and hopefully find a way to get his career back on track which at the moment seems to have lost steam.
