NEW YORK – November 1, 2017 – Combate Americas today announced the signing of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) bantamweight (135 pounds) superstar Erik “Goyito” Pérez (17-6) to an exclusive, multi-year promotional agreement.
The 27-year-old Pérez of Monterrey, Mexico is expected to make his debut in La Jaula, the Combate Americas cage, in January.
A world-ranked phenomenon who is also recognized as one of the pioneers of MMA in his home country, Pérez was the first Mexican-born competitor to debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he left after winning his last three consecutive bouts, and posted and overall stellar record of 7-2.
“We are thrilled to welcome ‘Goyito’ Pérez, the top Mexican fighter in the sport of MMA, and look forward to having him compete in La Jaula,” Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren said.
Pérez has been serving as a color commentator on Combate Americas’ live telecasts since January when the MMA sports franchise made its debut in Mexico City, Mexico.
Pérez will continue his role as an on-air announcer, and will call the action live on Saturday, Nov. 11 when Combate Americas presents “COPA COMBATE,” a historic event headlined by a $100,000 grand prize, one-night, eight-man bantamweight tournament that takes place on the 24th anniversary of UFC 1, which McLaren executive produced.
“COPA COMBATE” also marks the first-ever NBCU simulcast of an MMA event, and the first Telemundo broadcast of MMA action in history.
The Telemundo broadcast in Spanish and an NBCSN telecast in English will begin at 11:30 p.m. ET/10:30 p.m. CT.
