Chávez Jr looks regain the confidence of his fans March 1st
Julio Cesar Chavez is determined to sparkle with a grandstand performance and to justify the confidence of his fans in the keenly anticipated rematch with Bryan Vera, on March 1st in San Antonio, Texas.
“I’m excited to return to the ring in San Antonio. The fans of Texas have always been very kind supporting me in my career” Chavez Jr. said, adding:
“For many people, my fight in San Antonio in June 2010 against John Duddy fight was my premiere that took me to my first championship bout a year later. That fight made many boxing fans believe in me and erased doubts.
“In February 2012, I returned to San Antonio as world champion and I defeated the number one contender Marco Antonio Rubio. That night the people came out and really supported me when I successfully defended my title.
“The only other time I fought in San Antonio was in 2007 when I just beginning my climb up the rankings. My next fight is March 1st the 15th time I’ll fight in Texas and this fight will be one of the most important of my career, after two disappointing performances … my first professional defeat against Sergio Martinez, and a disputed victory over Bryan Vera last September in Los Angeles.
“I know the expectations before my first bout against Vera were for it to be an easy fight, but it wasn’t for many reasons. But I won’t make any excuses. I know I owe the fans a great fight and that’s exactly what they’ll get, a great performance on March 1st.
“I think Vera fought as best he could in the first fight and I know I did not do my best. I’ll be more prepared physically and mentally for this second fight because I know I have to get an impressive win against Vera. There is much at stake for me in this fight.
“This time around we’re fighting in the home state of Vera and he has a lot of support in the stands. But…inside the ring it’ll just be us, hand to hand. And while I felt I won the first fight with my power and precise shots, I know I’ve left some doubts in minds of many people because of my weight issues and the fact that I had no consistency in my attack that I needed during that fight.
“In boxing it is always be ready and willing to enter the ring with all that I have and that’s what will happen the second time against Vera. I have to be active, consistent and plant my punches with power and do more damage early to finish the fight with great mastery.
“My fans in Texas and around the world know I always give the best possible fight so they can enjoy no matter the circumstances. I assure that for this fight on March 1, I will be at my best and achieve victory in a very clear and decisive manner!”
