Canada’s Brandy Badry will Make her U.S. Debut at “San Diego Fights” on Friday, October 24th!
With 2014 winding down, San Diego’s only California Boxing hall of fame promoter Bobby D. Presents is only gearing getting ready to present at least two more fight cards before the end of the year. The first is set for Friday, October 24th, at the new home for San Diego professional boxing, the Crowne Plaza Hanalei Hotel in Mission Valley. After capturing the interim WBC Latino junior welterweight title last February, undefeated local fan favorite Emmanuel “Renegade” Robles (11-0-1, 3KOs) returns home against the tough Carlos Valenzuela (6-1, 3KO) of Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, in the eight round main event.
Robles took hold of the aforementioned title with a come from behind split decision win over the much more experienced Olympian Yordenis Ugas. Robles was able to outwork the more technical Ugas and even managed to send him to the canvas in the fifth round. At the end there was no denying Robles in his hometown as he was awarded the win with scores of 97-92 and 95-94 while the third judge saw it for Ugas with a score of 96-93. Five months later Robles traveled to San Francisco, CA, to take on hometown fighter Jonathan Chicas. The underdog Robles proceeded to outbox Chicas and was able to punctuate with a win with a hard uppercut in the seventh that put Chicas on his back. After the eight rounds, Robles was announced as the split decision winner with cards of 76-75 twice and 75-76 for Chicas.
Valenzuela lost his undefeated streak in his last fight when he was stopped in the first round by San Diego Fights alum Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker in Dallas, TX. Valenzuela is looking to get back in the win column and guaranteeing fireworks.
In the co-main event newly crowned Amaris “Diamond Girl” Quintana (8-2-2, 1KO) of San Diego is scheduled for eight rounds against an opponent to be determined. In her last fight last June, Quintana dropped Ciudad Juarez, MX’s Susana Uribe en route to a lopsided unanimous decision to capture the NABF straw weight title in Tijuana. Haven’t fought in her hometown since April, Quintana is eager to get back in front of the San Diego’s boxing fans.
Bobby DePhilippis, President of Bobby D. Presents, was named the NABF female promoter of the year during their last convention earlier this year. DePhilippis has taken the baton and really made female boxing a priority during his fight cards and this one is no exception as he just added another female fight between light welterweights Brandy Badry (1-5) and Jillian Lybarger (0-1) in a four rounder. The bout will mark Canada’s Badry first fight in the United States while Lybarger is no stranger to San Diego since she made her pro debut here last month. Lybarger is half of the only MMA twin sister fighting duo.
Rounding out the card will be the #7 WBC cruiserweight Dmytro Kucher (21-1, 15KO) in a scheduled eight round bout, San Diego’s “Smokin” Joe Perez (5-1-1, 4KO) vs. Spain’s Cesar Martinez (4-3-2, 1KO) in a featherweight four, in heavyweight Border War action Joe “The Bull” Delgadillo (1-0, 1KO) of San Diego vs Edgar “Porky” Najera (0-2) and in a battle of first timers, middleweights William Williams of Atlanta, GA, vs Los Angeles’ Delano Wilson.
