BUTCHER: I’LL WIN THE THE BRITISH TITLE SECOND TIME AROUND

Scottish flyweight star Iain Butcher says he’ll capture the Vacant British title second time around when he faces Belfast’s Luke Wilton at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday 18th April.

Butcher features as chief support on a triple-title card headlined by Derry Mathews’ challenge for the WBA World Lightweight title against the champion Richar Abril, plusLiam Smith’s versus David Ezequiel Romero for the Vacant WBO Intercontinental Light-Middleweight title, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

The 22-year-old from Motherwell challenged Kevin Satchell, then British Champion with the Commonwealth belt also on the line, in Liverpool in July 2013.  Butcher floored Satchell in the second round but couldn’t finish him off and Satchell recovered to go on and win a very close points decision.

Butcher bounced straight back three months later to claim the WBO European belt with a first round stoppage of Gabor Molnar and followed it up with another first round win over Valentin Marinov in February last year.  A six-round points win over tough Ghanaian Isaac Quaye came next in June, but then suffered a blip against Csaba Kovacs in his last fight in December losing a six-round decision.

Satchell has since relinquished the British title and Butcher believes that it’s now his time to finally claim the prized Lonsdale belt.

“I’ve been in line for a while now to fight for the British title and I’m delighted that I’ve got my chance,” Said Butcher.

“Wilton’s a tough man, I respect him, but I believe that I’m the better boxer.  I’m stronger and faster than him, it depends on what Wilton turns up as he can blow hot and cold with his performances.  I really want to make a big statement in this fight and show that I’m the best in Britain,”

“Satchell has vacated the British belt, but he’s still got the win over me and I’d love the chance down the line to rectify it.  He’s probably going on to a world title fight soon, but it gives me the chance to step up to championship level, have some more title fights and show that I’m ready for a rematch with him,”

“I had him in the second round and fair play to him he recovered and I couldn’t nail him, but for my first twelve round fight it was a great learning experience and as you can see I’ve come back from it and I’m better,”

“I’ve been training at the MGM gym in Marbella and I’ve had a fantastic camp and left nothing to chance.  I believe this time I will be crowned the British Champion.”
