BROOKLYNITES LOAD UNDERCARD FOR UPCOMING HURRICANE SANDY BENEFIT BROADWAY BOXING CARD
New York, NY (12/6/12) – On Wednesday, December 19, at the Roseland Ballroom, DiBella Entertainment (DBE) will present the latest installment of its longstanding Broadway Boxing series. Headlining the card, which is being held as a benefit for Hurricane Sandy victims with all the proceeds from the show being donated to the American Red Cross, will be Queens, NY contender Will “Power” Rosinsky (16-2, 9KO’s) taking on Otis Griffin (24-10-2, 10KO’s) in a 10-round light heavyweight match-up.
In one of the co-featured bouts of the evening, DBE’s red-hot prospect Ivan Redkach (12-0, 11KO’s) looks to continue on his ascent up the ladder of the lightweight division when he squares off against Edward Valdez (11-8-2, 8KO’s) in an eight-round showdown. In the other co-featured bout, Brooklyn’s popular junior welterweight contender Gabriel “Tito” Bracero (20-1, 3KO’s) will meet Johnnie Edwards (15-5-1, 8KO’s) in another eight-round bout. Also, as previously announced, the newest member on the DBE roster, recent world title challenger Ionut “Jo Jo” Dan Ion (29-2, 16KO’s) will also see action on the card in an eight-round welterweight contest.
Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling (800) 745-3000, or by calling the DiBella Entertainment office at (212) 947-2577. Tickets are priced at $125, $85, $65 and $45. Doors open at 6 p.m. ET with the first bout scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET. The event is sponsored by Manfredi Auto Group and Newlio.com, in association with Everlast.
Highlighting the undercard will be two bright young stars on the DBE roster in 22-year-old Travis “The Notorious” Peterkin (5-0, 3KO’s) and 20-year-old Zachary “Zungry” Ochoa (3-0, 3KO’s). Both of Brooklyn, Peterkin and Ochoa were featured on Broadway Boxing cards earlier this year, with Peterkin winning a dominant four-round decision over Hamid Abdul Mateen on the October 24 card, and Ochoa blowing away Cody Osborne in just 42 seconds of the very first round back on August 2. Both bouts of those bouts-as is the case with the upcoming event on December 19-took place at Roseland Ballroom. Peterkin is scheduled to face Eddie Tigs (1-4-2) in a four-round light heavyweight matchup while Ochoa will square off against fellow Brooklynite Ian James (2-4-1, 1KO) in a four-round junior welterweight contest.
Adding to the Brooklyn flavor on the card will be fellow undefeated fighters Jarrell Miller (3-0, 3KO’s) and Mikkel Lespierre (1-0, 1KO). The heavyweight Miller is a champion kick boxer who has served as a lead sparring partner for both heavyweight champion Klitschko brothers. Miller will swap leather with Minnesota’s Tyrone Gibson (1-3, 1KO) in a four-round showdown, while the former NY Golden Gloves finalist Lespierre will see action against pro-debuting Cornelius Whitlock in a four-round junior welterweight matchup.
Returning to Roseland Ballroom for the second time as a pro will be the Robert Garcia-trained Allan Benitez (7-1, 1KO). After losing his pro debut, Benitez linked up with the highly regarded Garcia and has reeled off seven consecutive victories, including his most recent outing on August 2, a highly entertaining six-round unanimous decision over Osnell Charles. The Mexican born Benitez was supposed to take on up-and-coming Puerto Rican superstar Jose Pedraza on “ShoBox: The New Generation” this past October, but was forced to withdraw after suffering an injury to his shoulder in training. Benitez is scheduled to take on Danny Calzada (4-6-2, 1KO) in a six-round junior lightweight matchup.
Rounding out the card will be heavy-handed undefeated junior welterweight prospect Maurice Hooker (6-0-1, 5KO’s) in a four-round bout and female junior middleweights Akima Stocks (4-0, 3KO’s) and Marva Dash (0-1) do battle over four rounds.
The DBE-promoted Broadway Boxing card is being held as a benefit for Hurricane Sandy victims with all of the proceeds from the show being donated to the American Red Cross. A silent auction will be held throughout the evening with DiBella Entertainment’s President Lou DiBella donating items from his own extensive personal collection.
