Boxing’s best reality show KNOCKOUT slated to return on 3/31
There isn’t a boxing reality show that has attracted as much star power from boxers and celebrities as Knockout. Season three which is slated to premiere on March 31st is even bigger than the previous two seasons with appearances by Ray J, Ghostface, Hector Camacho Jr, Zab Judah and many more. The launch dinner and viewing party last night was full of executives from the ad world and several celebrities.
After the viewing, executive producer Steven Marcano announced that there were a few issues that he needed to work through to make sure the show would make it to air next week. Knockout has changed it’s look completely and now it feels more like a true reality show. It feels fresh and young like a boxing version of Love and Hip Hop.
Marcano explained in his presentation to his partners at Azteca that while they are smart and talented and that they are great at what they do, that he had one goal and that is to bring them a new audience of Latinos. Latinos like himself, who grew up in the South Bronx or in in East LA. Latinos who respect and love their culture but don’t watch Spanish dominant programming on Univision, Telemundo or Azteca. The true American Latino is who he wants to expand and grow Azteca America’s viewership with while also growing revenue with boxing worldwide.
Here is my brief review of this season’s Knockout in comparison to last season:
This season will transcend to the masses and not just the boxing fan. The show’s bilingual format works but the show should have green screened the talent instead of a voice over. Also the show moves along extremely fast and in this new format they should have increased it to an hour so people can engage the cast longer.
Knockout is still the best show in it’s space and the changes are great and should increase viewership to the masses. The show feels like a true reality show and the crowd enjoyed it as I worked the room to gauge people’s reaction and the finding is this episode is an 8 out of 10 and is a very good show that has the potential to become not only the leader in boxing but in the reality space.
