“Boxeo Telemundo Ford” continues this Friday, March 1 with its 30th anniversary celebration and a WBO title event
MIAMI, Fla. – February 26, 2019– Telemundo Deportes’ “Boxeo Telemundo,” the #1 Spanish-language boxing program in the U.S., returns this Friday, March 1 at 11:35 p.m. ET from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL. The main event features WBO #1 rated Latino Champion, Ricardo “Hindu” Espinoza of Tijuana, Mexico facing veteran Ricardo “El Matematico” Nunez of Panama City, Panama in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds with Espinoza’s WBO Latino title on the line.
“Boxeo Telemundo” commentators René Giraldo and Edgar López will call the action alongside World Boxing Champion and former Olympian Abner Mares. The show will continue its 30th anniversary celebration with special segments that look back at the best moments of the show.
“Hindu” Espinoza, 21, is boasting a record of 22-2-19 KO’s, having knocked out his past nine opponents including two of them in title fights. “Hindu” looks to continue his knockout streak as he makes his 3rd appearance on Telemundo.
The challenger, Ricardo Nunez 29-8-23 KO’s, 31, carries the veteran experience in the fight. Nunez, has contested multiple title opportunities, including two world title fights. Nunez will look to impose his experience Friday night as he makes his 2nd appearance on U.S. soil; in his first fight he lost a close split decision to Cuban prospect Leduan Barthelemy (13-0-1).
The co-main event of the night is undefeated prospect Derreck Cuevas (19-0-1-14 Ko’s) of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Cuevas battles local idol Ed “The Lion” Paredes (38-7-25 KO’s) of Pembrook Pines, Florida in a bout scheduled 10 rounds for the vacant World Boxing Association(WBA) Latin Welterweight title.
“Boxeo Telemundo Ford” will continue March 9 with a WBO light flyweight title event featuring Mexicans Saul “Baby” Juarez and Mario “Mayonesas” Andrade and a special co-main event featuring a female bout in celebration of International Women’s Day.
Debuting in 1989, Boxeo Telemundo has showcased more than 50 world champions, including Erik Morales, Felix Tito Trinidad, Wilfredo Vazquez, Daniel Zaragoza, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, Oscar “Chololo” Larios and Israel “El Magnífico” Vazquez, earning a reputation as the show “where champions are born.”
