“BOXEO TELEMUNDO FORD” COMMENCES ITS 26TH YEAR WITH A 10 ROUND TITLE FIGHT THIS FRIDAY
Miami –March 3, 2015– Boxeo Telemundo Ford begins its 26th consecutive year of broadcasting top notch boxing on Hispanic Television this FRIDAY, March 6 at 11:35PM/10:35C live from the Kissimee Civic Center in Florida. Puerto Rican contender Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo and Gabino “Flash” Cota, of Sonora, Mexico, will vie for the WBO Latino Featherweight title. René Giraldo and Jessi Losada will share their experience and enthusiasm to narrate this fight.
Oquendo (24-4, 16 KO) returns to Boxeo Telemundo Ford almost a year to the date of his last victory, an impressive 10 round decision win against Guillermo “Borrego” Avila. That performance earned him a fight against former world champion Abner Mares in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a good showing for Oquendo, even though Mares won on the judge’s scorecards. He looks to get back on the winning track against Cota, and his chances are good considering he’s won 11 of 13 bouts versus Mexican opponents.
For Cota the fight against Oquendo will be his first in the United States. The heavy-handed Cota (17-3-1, 15 KO) hopes his power will be the difference in this fight, and earns him the upset win. Of his 15 knockout wins, 10 have been in within the first three rounds.
“Boxeo Telemundo Ford” is the longest running boxing program on US Hispanic network television. Now in its 26th consecutive year, the program has lined up three more high caliber fights for this season featuring some of the sport’s hungriest warriors:
On March 13, in Tampa, Florida, “Boxeo Telemundo Ford” veteran Jonathan “Pitbull” Vidal of Puerto Rico will take on Mexico’s Ricardo “Meserito” Rodríguez in a match set for 10 rounds.
A week later, on March 20, fellow Mexicans Alejandro “Payasito” Hernández, a former world champion, and Martín “Pini” Casillas will thrill fans on both sides of the border in a scheduled 10 round matchup at the Auditorio Blackberry in Mexico City as they battle for the WBC Fecarbox Bantamweight title.
Finally, in the most eagerly awaited bout of the “Boxeo Telemundo Ford” Spring Season, Florida native Daniel “El Alacrán” Lozano and Mexico’s David “Severo” Carmona will do war for the WBO Latino Superflyweight title at the Agri-Civic Center in Lozano’s hometown of Arcadia, Florida.
All “Boxeo Telemundo Ford” telecasts are scheduled to air at 11:35PM/10:35C on Telemundo, and DeportesTelemundo.com digital platforms.
