Bisping on Rockhold: “There’s nothing about Luke that scares me.”
LOS ANGELES – UFC TONIGHT hosts Daniel Cormier and Kenny Florian recap Saturday’s UFC 198: WERDUM VS. MIOCIC and catch up with new heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. They also talk to former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw. Karyn Bryant adds reports.
UFC TONIGHT host Kenny Florian on Thomas Almeida vs. Cody Garbrandt: “Almeida is a high-combination striker. He throws big combos, has knockout power, but he needs to be careful early on. It takes him a while to get going. Once he gets going, you can’t stop him. He needs to be careful with a big puncher like Cody. He needs to be able to stop the takedowns of Garbrandt. I don’t see this one going the distance with both these guys being knockout artists.”
Cormier on Garbrandt and Almeida’s strengths: “These are two of the best prospects in the division. Garbrandt has phenomenal boxing and he also has wrestling. He may not be as diverse and electric as Almeida, but he has the basics, the punches, the tight combinations, the wrestling, the ability to push a hard pace and even though he starts slow, he maintains the pace over three rounds. Almeida has to reel it in a little. He’s so aggressive that he puts himself in trouble sometimes. He needs to reel it in and fight with a game plan. He can’t fall behind early against Cody.”
Michael Bisping on getting the title shot: “Weidman pulled out again, Jacare had no balls. They needed a real fighter’s fighter to step in, so look no further than yours truly. I know Luke and I lost the last fight, but I’ve been in there before. I know what he’s capable of. There’s nothing about Luke that scares me. Yes, I’m taking it on short notice, but I hit as hard in the first week of camp as I do in the last week. I’m coming for Luke. All the pressure is on him. Be careful Luke, I’m coming.”
Luke Rockhold on facing Bisping in the title fight: “Thanks to Michael Bisping for being a man and taking this fight. I want to congratulate him on his retirement. It sounds like he’s got a nice budding movie career.”
Bisping to Rockhold: “You know I beat your ass in training. All the pressure is on you, it only takes one punch. I’m coming in nice and loose and I’m going for your chin.”
Rockhold on how long the fight will last: “Last time, it was a mistake letting you get out of the first round. This time it won’t happen.”
Bisping on getting the title shot: “I don’t want the title shot, I want to be world champion. I just beat the greatest of all time, Anderson Silva. I’m a better fighter now. If Luke thinks it’s the same as last time, than he’s mistaken.”
Rockhold on Bisping’s destiny: “It’s your destiny to be my little bitch.”

Stipe Miocic on if he’s excited he’s finally reached his dream of winning the title: “I’m not done yet. It’s so surreal, but I want to keep this going for a long time.”
Miocic on how he handled fighting in front of such a huge, hostile crowd: “I was nervous. If you’re not nervous, you’re not ready. But I train too hard not to be ready. I have the best coaches in the world and I was confident that I’d walk out with the belt.”
Miocic on if he thinks Alistair Overeem should get the next title shot: “Sure. He’s got a four-fight win streak. He’s awesome. Whoever they put in front of me, I’ll beat them and keep that belt.”
Miocic on his homecoming: “Honestly, I’ve never cried that much. Intense it was amazing having so much support. It was overwhelming.”
Miocic on showing his belt to his mother: “She’s such an amazing woman. I wouldn’t be the man that I am today without her. She put so much effort into me. I want to make her proud. When I saw her, we just cried.”

UFC TONIGHT host Daniel Cormier on if Stipe Miocic should fight Alistair Overeem next: “Overeem does deserve it. This is a guy in the heavyweight division on a win streak – he’s won four in a row. Finally, he’ll get his chance at the UFC title.”
TJ Dillashaw on being excited to fight Raphael Assuncao next: “You don’t always get your chance to avenge your losses. I’ve got two in my sights. I’ve got to run through Raphael and then I want to get my belt back.”
Dillashaw on his new team: “The team is awesome. The gym is full of pro athletes. You’re going in to a state-of-the-art facility. Team morale is really good. We’ve got great coaches. I followed Duane out there, but I have new coaches. We’re bringing in new guys and it’s fun to be able to grow a team.”
Dillashaw on Urijah Faber’s recent comments about him: “That’s kind of crossing the line. He’s put our friendship on blast and put my name out there. He put me and Dominick on blast and looked like a fool. He’s always been a cool guy, but now he’s acting like a 14-year-old school girl wanting to create drama.”

Derrick Lewis on how his fight with Roy Nelson came together: “My fans were asking me and believe it would be a good match up. It’s a fan-friendly fight. Two guys are going to stand and trade, no running around. It’s not going three rounds. It’ll finish in two minutes. Either he’s going to be knocked out or I’m going to be knocked out. No way in hell we’re going to the judges.”
