‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell brings big-time boxing back to Bristol on November 14
LONDON (6 OCTOBER) Middleweight star Nick ‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell will aim to make it three big knockout wins in a row on November 14, when he headlines a Hennessy Sports in association with Sanigar Events show at the City Academy, Bristol, LIVE on Channel 5.
The 24-year-old from Trowbridge is the reigning British middleweight champion and one of the standout British fighters of the year. His electrifying seventh-round stoppage win over John Ryder at London’s O2 Arena in May, televised live on Sky Sports Box Office, landed him the Lonsdale belt, while a stunning sixth-round knockout of Damon Jones in July, live on Channel 5, highlighted his devastating punch power and made-for-TV style.
Now, with world titles very much in his sights, Blackwell looks to make a statement on November 14 by completing a hat-trick of impressive wins against highly-rated middleweights.
“We’ve offered the fight to some well-known and world-ranked fighters, but nobody wants to go anywhere near Nick Blackwell right now,” said his promoter Mick Hennessy.
“I’m told Chris Eubank Jr. was offered the fight for a lot of money and, as has been the case in the past, turned it down,” said Blackwell.
“We’ve sparred each other before and he knows exactly what would happen if we met anytime soon. Yet, apparently he badly wants the British title.
“The problem for him, though, is if he wants to win the title and prove he’s the best in Britain, he has to go through me.
“With that in mind, I can understand why he’d want to swerve the oppportunity and seek out easier fights elsewhere.”
Also appearing on November 14 in Bristol will be heavyweight hotshot Hughie Lewis Fury, now unbeaten in 16 professional fights, as well as Tyson Fury’s younger brother, Young Fury, who looks to grab the sixth win of his fledgling pro career, and the explosive Yusuf Safa.
Local lads David Bailey, Duane Winters, Dan Sarkozi, Lee Nutland, Ashley Lane, Ryan Wheeler, Liam Hunt and Tim Cutler will also appear at the City Academy.
