Asselstine back with a win

Tyler_AsselstineToronto (April 10) Tyler Asselstine looked in tremendous shape as he outmatched former world title challenger Olivier Lontchi at the 28th Annual Shaw Evening of Boxing in support of the Shaw Festival of the Arts, Fairmont Royal York, Toronto.

Rising star Asselstine showed his class and boxing skills to record a unanimous points victory over the scheduled eight rounds, putting to bed any demons he may have had from the questionable split decision loss he suffered to Baha Laham in his previous outing.

The 26-year-old Toronto featherweight now boasts 13 wins with seven knockouts and only the single defeat, after inflicting the third loss of 29-year-old Lontchi’s career, who moves to 18 wins, eight by knockout, three defeats with two knockouts and two draws.

Also on the bill, Samuel Vargas emphatically claimed the NABA-Canada super-welterweight title, with a seventh round knockout of Julius Bunda.

Vargas showed why he’s known as Canada’s most ferocious fighter, taking control of the fight before delivering the final blow to record a knockout win 1 min 43 seconds into the seventh round, giving him the NABA-Canada title and his fourth knockout victory in as many fights.

His record now stands at 12 wins with six knockouts, no losses and one draw, while Bunda, 27, moves to five wins with three knockouts, three defeats with two knockouts and two draws.

The evening also featured George Chuvalo as a special guest.
