Abel Ramos Recovering From Injuries Suffered At USC Galen Center Bout
Sherman Oaks, CA (May 13, 2014) This past Saturday night at theUSC Galen Center, junior welterweight Abel Ramos of Phoenix, Arizona showed his true mettle as the 22-year-old top prospect battled through a series of severe injuries to settle for a six round draw with veteran Levan Ghvamichava of Miami, Florida.
The outstanding bloody battle between the undefeated Ramos, now 9-0-2 (5KO’s), and Ghvamichava took place immediately following theWorld Boxing Council Heavyweight Championship betweenBermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola.
“Ramos suffered a terrible cut over his right eye in the first round from an elbow thrown by Ghvamichava that required fourteen stiches” saidAndy Zak of Journeyman Management Team. “As if the cut wasn’t enough to overcome, in the second round, he also sustained a broken left hand. Despite these horrific injuries to a young fighter, he acted as a true veteran valiantly battling to the end in a fight that many ringsiders thought he won.”
Continued Zak, “Dr. Justin Heller is operating on Abel today at the Antelope Valley Hospital and he will return home tomorrow.”
“We’re extremely proud of Abel. To get cut with an elbow in the first round and to suffer a broken hand in the second while continuing to fight the way he did, Abel is a true warrior.”
Dan Goossen, the promoter of the event said he’s never seen anything like this with such a young fighter ignoring the constant flow of blood impairing his vision and compounding his obstacles with a severely broken hand. “You can only imagine what he would have accomplished in that ring Saturday night if he didn’t have to deal with injuries that would have caused most to call it a night. We wish him a fast and healthy recovery.”
