Nielsen and Markussen make weight, ready for Collision Course
Patrick Nielsen (23-1, 12 KOs) and Rudy Markussen (38-3, 25 KOs) both made weight today in Frederikshavn, Denmark ahead of their Collision Course clashes on Saturday night at the Arena Nord.
With a Danish mega-fight on the horizon, the bitter rivals face their final test ahead of a blockbuster showdown later this year. Nielsen, the current WBA International Champion, takes on Brazilian brawler Samir Santos Barbosa (36-12-3, 25 KOs), while Markussen returns from retirement to battle Ramazi Gogichashvili (19-6-2, 9 KOs).
Super Middleweight (catch weight 77 kg) – 10 Rounds:
Patrick Nielsen: 77 kg
Samir Santos Barbosa: 76 kg
‘’I’m looking forward to getting in the ring again,’’ said Nielsen. ‘’People can expect an explosive performance. I want to be more aggressive than in my last fight against Adamu. I feel stronger and I’m definitely hitting harder, so I’m going to try to stop Barbosa. I’m not thinking about Rudy, right now it is all about beating Barbosa.’’
Light Heavyweight– 8 Rounds:
Rudy Markussen: 78.4 kg
Ramazi Gogichashvili: 76.4 kg
“I have been in weight for three weeks, so I feel good and I’m ready to go,’’ said Markussen. “I have built up so much inside, and now, I really feel that I’m starting to look forward to the fight. This is a chance to show everybody that I’m back. I can’t wait to get in the ring and hear the fans scream my name.’’
