Juan Diaz to undergo rotator cuff surgery
Former Four-Time Lightweight World Champion and WBO #1 Lightweight Contender, Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz (40-4) has paused his quest for a Fifth World Title to undergo rotator cuff surgery.
Building upon his five fight win streak, Diaz was in camp training for his next fight when he experienced a sharp pain in his shoulder. After seeing multiple doctors, he learned that his rotator cuff was “hanging by a thread,” and possibly had been impaired longer, unbeknownst to Diaz.
“When you are a boxer, everything hurts. You just work through it. The doctors told me that after my shoulder is repaired, not only will I be able to continue my return, but that I will be even better than before. Turns out, all this time, I’ve likely been fighting with an impairment in one arm. I can’t wait to see what I can do with both. Of course, Top Rank has been very supportive, which I appreciate. Though I am disappointed that I will not be fighting next month, I can only look at the glass as half full. Sometimes, you find a blessing in unexpected places.”
