Quigley Scores In Plymouth, Mass

Friday-Oct 31st-(Plymouth, Mass) Irish super middleweight blue-chip prospect Jason Quigley (left) got into the Halloween spirit early, dropping a frightful combination on foe Greg McCoy at Memorial Hall, in Plymouth, Mass on Thursday night, earning himself a KO1 victory on a Fox Sports 1/Golden Boy Promotions show.

A left hook-right hand follow dropped and stopped McCoy near the end of an impressive first round for the Irishman; the loser’s eyes were glazed and the ref counted ten, giving Quigley, the top hitter in the Sheer Sports stable, his third victory as a pro in as many tries.

The climactic end came at 2:39 of the first.

Quigley (age 23; 2-0 with 2 KOs entering; from Donegal, Ireland) was 165 1/2 pounds, while McCoy (165 pounds; 3-3-1 entering; from New Haven, CT) was 165 pounds at the weigh-in.

Quigley, now based out of California, kicked off the night of fights on FS1 with a scrap set for four rounds of less. He looked to snap his jab, and assert his superior amateur pedigree on the Connecticut-based foe.

His left hook from outside impressed Fox analyst Paul Malignaggi, who called it “sharp.” Lead right hands worked for Quigley, who drew appreciative calls from the fans, who liked his power punching mentality. They saw that, in spades, when the victor, who won a gold medal at the European Amateur Boxing Championships at middleweight in 2013, dropped the hammer on McCoy.

Quigley debuted in the pro ranks in July 2014, and Golden Boy boss Oscar De La Hoya was quite enthused to ink the Irishman. That excitement should only grow as he keeps racking up top-notch stoppages. “Jason Quigley is part of the next generation of European boxers who are about to make their mark on the international stage, and we believe he has the skill and determination to go very far in the future,” said De La Hoya when the Sheer boxer aligned with Golden Boy. “It also doesn’t hurt that he has the great nation of Ireland behind him, and I know they will support him wherever he goes.”

Indeed; as FS1 blow by blow man Brian Custer said after the rousing KO, “Listen to this crowd!” Boston may just have found a new fan face, no surprise as New England boxing fans always take to an Irish lad with a drop ’em and stop ’em mentality.

Malignaggi noted that Quigley possesses solid accuracy and guile, because he is able to fool a foe into thinking a jab is coming, and then delivers the sort of left hook that will begin building his reputation and buzz that much higher. “You see why Golden Boy is so high on this prospect Jason Quigley,” said Custer, to wrap up.
