Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano grabs gold in Argentina
Demolished former WBO Lightweight Champion Maria Maderna
Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA – Highly touted female boxer from Puerto Rico by way of Brooklyn, New York, Amanda Serrano ( 21-1-1, 16 KO’s ) scored a impressive six round knockout over localist, Maria ‘Tily’ Maderna ( 13-9-3, 2 KO’s ) from Buenos Aires to grab the WBO World Lightweight belt ( 135lbs ). The fight was held at the Argentine Boxing Federation Stadium.
This was Maderna fourth title defense but Serrano, a former Featherweight and Super Featherweight World Champion, was dominating the fight with her speed and power. Then in the 6 round, she connected a solid right hook that sent Maderna to the canvas, who then after getting on her feet told the referre to stop the fight.
Amanda Serrano commented “I promised my people of Puerto Rico and Brooklyn another World Title. Hard training and patience were the keys to succeed” said Amanda Serrano, “we learn two weeks ago about this fight but I was training very hard for another fight, so there were no surprises. I want to thank Maria Maderna for accepting the fight and the people of Argentina for their love”.
On September 10, 2011, Amanda became the first female boxer in IBF history to win the Super Featherweight World Title by defeating Kimberly Connor ( 10-2-2, 4 KO’s ) by knockout in the first round. Later, on February16, 2013, Amanda captured the Featherweight Universal Boxing Federation ( UBF ) and Women’s International Boxing Association ( WIBA ) world titles by defeating Dominican localist, Wanda Pena Ozuna ( 8-5, 2 KO’s ) by TKO in the first round.
