Sergey Kovalev: One Knockout Away from the Big Time
When WBO Lightheavyweight Champion Sergey “The Krusher” Kovalev takes on undefeated Blake Caparello this weekend in Atlantic City, at the soon to close yet brand new Revel Casino and Resort, Kovalev will be searching for his 9th straight knockout in a big way.
As the undefeated champion steps in versus a virtually unknown fighter in Caparello, Kovalev will be looking to impress in order to land his next fight, potentially against all time legend, the ageless one, Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins. Although the fight isn’t set in stone and Kovalev still needs to get by Caparello, HBO and the fans are clamoring to see the knockout artist and one of boxings’ biggest punchers in with the best fighters in the division. Just in case the Hopkins fight falls through, there is another potential other opponent in Jean Pascal, a fight that HBO and Showtime would be crazy not to air. Although the world wants to see Kovalev face off against WBC champion and knockout artist Adonis Stevenson, networks, promoters and managers might have a difficult time making that work.
As for this weekend however, we’ll see a more determined Kovalev then ever as he tries “krush” everyone in his path to make the big fights happen. It’s a shame that Caparello has to be the cannon fodder for such a hungry, hard hitting animal of a man, but someone has to do it right? Hopefully the 100k fee will be worth it. This one won’t go more than 5 rounds. Prediction: Kovalev TKO4 Caparello
