Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Sergio MartinezWBC middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez stresses he’ll put Miguel Cotto into retirement on June 7th at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

Martinez will put his WBC title on the line against Cotto, which is why he’s been training flat out at the Matt Baiamonte Gym in Miami under the supervision of Pablo Sarmiento.

“Cotto won’t go beyond the ninth round and he will retire from boxing. He was a great champion and I know he’s training hard with Freddie Roach. But my mind is set in winning,” Martinez warned.

“I have to take care of my right knee, with successful, surgery. There were moments when I feared for my future because the recovery was long, but I feel great now.

“Cotto won’t pass the ninth round, then he will retire from boxing. I can assure you this!” Maravilla pledged, adding:

“Training camp has been great, we have been able to work on all aspects. I don’t care if some people think I’m the underdog, it motivates me. I’ve got used to these things, and it doesn’t affect me.”
