frank warren promotions logoCarl Frampton has been forced to withdraw by the British Boxing Board of Control from this Saturday’s IBF Intercontinental Super-Bantamweight title defence at Wembley Arena against Everth Briceno due to a perforated ear drum.

The show promoted by Frank Warren features the big Transatlantic showdown between Dereck Chisora and unbeaten Malik Scott for the Vacant WBO International Heavyweight title, plus a sensational clash of undefeated fighters between WBO International Middleweight Champion Gary O’Sullivan and Billy Joe Saunders, live and exclusive on Boxnation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).

Promoter Frank Warren said, “We are sorry that Carl has had to come off the show after all the hard work and preparation he has put into this Saturday’s title defence in his BoxNation debut.  We wish him all the best and he makes a full recovery so that he can return to the ring,”

Barry McGuigan from Team Frampton added, “We are all terribly disappointed that Carl has been ruled out by the Board due to a small perforation in left ear drum and he can’t go through with the fight this Saturday.  He’s trained exceptionally hard and was looking forward to boxing at the famous old Wembley Stadium and making his BoxNation debut.  He has just got to let the ear heal completely and then we will resume training again.  Carl and Team Frampton wish all the lads on the show the best of luck and are gutted not to be a part of it.  This is the first time that Carl has had to be sidelined for a major fight and he is really disappointed for his fans as they mean so much to him.”

Warren says that with Chisora’s crucial clash against Scott and the 50/50 match-up between O’Sullivan and Saunders to still expect plenty of excitement at Wembley Arena.

“There are two great title fights on the show with Chisora’s showdown against Scott which is heating up into an explosive fight that Chisora knows he has to win so he’ll put everything on the line, plus an exciting clash between unbeaten fighters sees the tough and relentless Irishman O’Sullivan defend his title against the silky-skilled hard-hitting Saunders.  The undercard is back up with some of the best young talent coming through including Frank Buglioni, Bradley Saunders and Bradley Skeete.” Said Warren.
