Mamadjonov Stops Santana In 9 Rounds For Upset Victory

In the main event of the evening, undefeated Angelo Santana (14-0) took on Bahodir Mamadjonov (11-1) to headline the live fights from Treasure Island. From the beginning of the affair, Santana used some great movement and fast hands to impose his will on his man. In the 2nd round, a straight jab from Santana sent Mamadjonov unto his seat. The Texas resident popped right back up from the canvas to beat the count but Santana’s power was already evident. He continued controlling the tempo for the next few rounds but rather than assert himself, he let his opponent gradually back in the fight little by little. Mamadjonov began pressing forward and mixed up his attack by alternating from punches to the head and also the body. Towards the halfway point of the bout he was landing flush on his foe, but even though Santana walked through the punches, one could only wonder how many more flush punches to the faces or 2-punch combos he could absorb before one did some serious damage.

Mamadjonov caught him with some clean uppercuts in the 7th that had Santana backing up now. The different look paid dividends going in the 8th round when he backed Santana up along the ropes and ripped away at his foe’s body. The Florida fighter dropped to one knee from the relentless attack. He beat the count but only to take more punishment in the 9th round.
A flurry from Mamadjonov sent him to the canvas one more time but the relentless  Santana beat the count again. Unfortunately, he didn’t avoid the offense of his opponent and took further punishment along the ropes, meeting the canvas again and this time referee Kenny Bayless had seen enough so he called off the match.

The end officially came at (0:51) seconds of the 9th round. The upset win moves Bahodis “Baha” Mamadjonov to (12-1) as he hands Santana his first loss. Angelo Santana drops to (14-1) and isn’t all too happy as he told press, “nothing against him, but I slipped on that last knock down, I want a rematch!”. After an action packed battle between top prospects, we can only hope they get a chance to do it again.

Imam Electrifies Crowd With 2nd Round KO

Amir Imam (8-0) vs. Jeremy Bryan (16-2)

(Super Lightweight Bout, 8 Rounds)

In the co-main event and only 140-pound fight of the night, fans got to see fireworks when Imam and Ryan clashed for the super lightweight bout. The 1st round started fast, with both men standing in the middle of the ring throwing hard and fast punches. Going into the 2nd, the action gently slowed down as the two fighters traded in the middle of the ring again but at a more measured pace. They were both looking to land something significant and then the shot came, it was from Imam off of a feint. The move caught Bryan off guard, and that was the exact time that a beautiful left hook-right hand combination came from Imam landing flush, the right hand punch instantly separating his opponent from his senses. Referee Russell Mora immediately waived the fight off as Bryan ended up knocked out and laid out on the canvas.

Result: Amir Imam defeats Jeremy Bryan by sensational KO at (2:13) of the 2nd round.

Ryan Coyne (21-0) vs. Marcus Oliveira (24-0-1)

(WBA Light Heavyweight Final Elimination Bout, 12 Rounds)

For the first 12 round match of the card, Coyne and Oliveira traded rounds as they traded punches for the first half of the fight. Coyne did great fighting off of the jab and coming forward but once he got away from it, Oliveira was able to sneak in some body punches or catch him with looping shots when they were in close range. In the 5th round with less than 10 seconds left the two were trading leather when a Oliveira right hand caught his man, hurting Coyne who walked back to his corner still shaken up. Going into the second half of the fight, both light heavyweights opted to make it more of a brawl. The action was fought mostly at close quarters as Coyne dug to his foe’s body with some hooks, while Oliveira looked for short shots and straight rights to catch his man coming in.

A head butt in the 7th round partially stopped the action. Maybe a nice break for Coyne, as the referee had the doctor look at it before the battle resumed. Coyne was bleeding out of his nose at this point and seemed the more spent out of the two warriors. The 10th round was Oliveira’s best as he caught Coyne with 5 hard punches during two separate combinations that had the Irish fighter’s head snapping back. Oliveira didn’t let up at all, seeming to now land at will in the 11th round. A crisp combination by Oliveira sent Coyne to the canvas for his first trip to the mat. He beat the count but Oliveira went in for the kill, pressed his man up against the ropes and began unloading 1-2s with ease unto his helpless opponent who went down again, this time to a knee. The referee had seen enough and called a stop to the match.

Result: Marcus Oliveira defeats Ryan Coyne by TKO at (1:15) of the 11th round.

James De La Rosa (21-1) vs. Marcus Willis (12-2-2)

(Super Welterweight Bout, 8 Rounds)

De La Rosa marched forward putting together combinations round after round as he walked down his foe. Willis looked to counter with big over hand rights or left hooks on the inside but came up short, at times getting countered off of his counter.  Willis found his rhythm towards the middle rounds and was able to get off first, landing the cleaner, more significant punches. In the 7th round, a perfectly timed right hand shot from Willis caught De La Rosa flush on the chin, leaving him on unsteady legs. Luckily, it was towards the end of the round so he survived. In the 8th and last round De La Rosa got caught again with the same punch but took it allot better this time. However, Willis had taken the lead and made it safely to the final bell en-route to a points victory.

Result: Marcus Willis defeats James De La Rosa by majority decision. (76-76), (78-74) & (77-75)

Trevor Bryan (6-0) vs. Alvarao Morales (6-12-6)

(Heavyweight Bout, 6 Rounds)

The first fight of the evening featured two heavies locking horns to kick off the night from the Treasure Island.  Unbeaten Trevor Bryan paced himself by picking his spots and fighting off the jab for the first few rounds as Morales looked to counter punch with right hands or left hooks. By the halfway point of the fight Bryan found success going to the body of Morales as he put together some combos. However, his Mexican adversary was able to pick up points by landing counters on the inside when the two fought at close range. For the last couple rounds, Bryan looked the fresher of the two combatants and pushed the pace with his jab and over hand rights to close out strong before the final bell.

Result: Trevor “American Dream” Bryan defeats Alvaro Morales by unanimous decision. (58-56), (59-55) and (60-54)
