Combate America Heads To South America with Historic MMA Event in Peru on May 31

LOS ANGELES – April 29, 2019 – Combate Americas today announced that it will head to South America for the first time ever with the largest-scale Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) live television event in Peru history at Coliseo Manuel Bonilla in the capital city of Lima on Friday, May 31

The flagship show will mark Combate Americas’ entry into a third country and second continent with its live event series that has been garnering momentum.

Headlined by a lightweight (155 pounds) showdown between fast-rising star Rolando Bedoya (11-1) of Lima and undefeated Daniel “Golden Boy” Zellhuber (6-0) of Mexico City, Mex., ‘Combate Peru’ will air live on television in Spanish in the U.S. on both Univision (12 a.m. ET/PT) and UDN (12 a.m. ET/9 p.m.PT), and in English in the U.S. and Canada on DAZN (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT).

“Since establishing the Combate Americas live television event series as a force in both the U.S. and Mexico, we have had our eyes on Peru, a proven hotbed for avid fight fans and fight talent, and are looking forward to bringing to Lima the biggest MMA show the country has ever seen,” said Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren.

Also announced today was a featherweight (145 pounds) co-main event contest between Lima’s Marlon “Deriko Siete” Gonzales (14-4-2) and Pablo Villaseca (14-5) of Santiago, Chile, who represented their respective countries in the 2018 “COPA COMBATE” one-night, eight-man, $100,000 grand prize tournament last December 7, 2018.

A featured strawweight (115 pounds) contest announced today will pit unbeaten Alitzel Mariscal (2-0) of Zapopan, Jalisco, Mex. against Maria Paola Buzaglo (1-1) of Lima.

In preliminary fight action announced today, Andres “Doble A” Ayala (12-7) of Bogota, Colombia will return to La Jaula in a bantamweight (135 pounds) contest against Lima’s Renzo “El Nene” Mendez (12-6), widely regarded as the number two competitor in his weight class in Peru.

Eduardo “Cyborg” Torres (8-0) of Santiago and Rodrigo ‘El Gato Loco” Vera (8-0-1) of Lima will risk their respective, unblemished records against each other in another bantamweight matchup.

Unbeaten, Peruvian-born upstart Dana Zighelboim Grau (1-0) will take a major step up in competition and square off with battle-tested Chilean superstar Jennifer Gonzalez (10-5) at a catchweight of 120 pounds.

Kevin “El Frio” Moreyra (4-2) will set out to defend his hometown of Lima against undefeated, rising star David “Black Spartan” Martinez (3-0) of Mexico City.
