UFC 223 PREMLINS FIGHT RESULTS
Moicano defeats Kattar via unanimous decision.
Renato Moicano:
“Much respect to Kattar. He is a very tough guy and I knew he would be a tough match-up but I also know that I am better than Kattar. I knew I had to be cautious and respect him because he is good but, watching his fights, I saw a weakness. He doesn’t know how to block kicks so I knew I would be able to exploit that. I wanted to be dominant and I felt very dominant. I want to fight the best in the world. I think the winner of Frankie Edgar vs. Cub Swanson would be the best matchup. I will, of course, listen to the UFC and see what they think but I think that fight would make the most sense next.”
Zabit Magomedsharipov:
“I said from the beginning, he is a very tough opponent and I know this would be a tough fight. I just want to thank him for taking the fight with me because 5 other opponents refused to fight me. All I want to know is: who is next? I want Yair Rodriguez and I want to do it in Moscow.”
Chris Gruetzemacher defeats Joe Lauzon by TKO after the doctor stop the bout from Lauzon cuts.
Chris Gruetzemacher:
“This is exactly what I needed. I felt very dominant in the first round and I was going to be aggressive in looking for the finish in the second. If a guy can’t continue between rounds, that’s just as good as a finish to me. On top of that, we’re not talking about just anyone. We’re talking about Joe Lauzon who is one of the toughest fighters to ever step foot in the Octagon. Joe doesn’t give up in a fight. We all know what a warrior he is. Getting a stoppage feels incredible. I was coming off a loss and this is the perfect way to remedy that. This opponent, this city, this event – it’s an incredible feeling.”
In a 3 round battle, strawweight Karolina Kowalkiewicz wins a split decision over Felice Herrig.
Karolina Kowalkiewicz:
“The fight went as expected and I am very happy to have the win but I do not know how the judges scored it as a split decision. It was clear that I won all 3 rounds. Right now, I want to take a vacation and spend time with my family but I will be watching Rose and Joanna closely tonight. My goal is to earn another title shot.”
Olivier Aubin-Mercier:
“I am getting better everywhere. This is just the beginning. I am a Canadian gangster… I have a ‘stache, I say ‘sorry’ and I don’t care what anyone thinks. I am getting better every day and I work hard to show it. Tonight was my first-ever TKO win. Much respect to Evan Dunham, he is a legend of the sport and very tough but I needed this. I am only just getting started.”
Ashlee Evans-Smith:
“I am really happy with how I felt in the Octagon tonight. This is my first fight at flyweight, which is 10lbs below what I’m used to, and I wasn’t sure if I would want to stay at this weight. After tonight, I know this is where I should be. I felt great, my cardio felt great and I was quicker. I was a little disappointed with how I strung my striking and grappling together. I was happy with my striking and it won me the fight but I felt like I could’ve been better with securing takedowns and so I want to go back to the gym and work on that. I really wanted the finish and I think that my takedowns would have gotten me there. I may be 30 but I am really a rookie in this sport so I’m trying to learn as much as I can. I think my win today should be a sign to the other girls in this division that I’m here and I’m dangerous but I also don’t want to get cocky over a decision win. I want finishes and I will find them. Next, I want someone in the Top 15, hopefully in the Top 10, but I’m here to be a force at flyweight.”
Devin Clark:
“I felt good out there. I really took control early and then worked to grind him out. I don’t think most guys can hang with the pressure and pace that I use and I showed that tonight. What I really want is to get a rematch with Jan Blachowicz. I lost to him and I want that win back. I want to show him, and the fans, what I’m capable of.”
