NDIAYE LOOKING TO KO GROVES
Mouhamed Ali Ndiaye says he will be the first to knock out George Groves when they clash next month for the Vacant European Super-Middleweight title.
The tough Senegali, based in Italy, reckons he can be the first the stop the unbeaten Londoner and wreck his dream of a WBO world title fight against the winner of Arthur Abraham and Robert Stieglitz.
Ndiaye, 33, has stopped his last three by knockout and is confident he can pull off a spectacular upset at Wembley Arena on Saturday 16th March, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).
“I want to be the world champion so I have to beat Groves to achieve that,” said Ndiaye.
“I hear that Groves is looking past me at a world title next against Abraham or Stieglitz, he is wrong and this is being disrespectful to me, but he will find out on the 16th March,”
“I’ve never been stopped and he says he can knock me out, but it will be the opposite, I will knock him out”.
Former European Union champ Ndiaye has more respect for Groves taking him on than James DeGale who vacated the title rather than face him and he’s confident he would have beaten the Olympic champion.
He added, “I really wanted to fight DeGale because he’s an Olympic champion, but he and his team postponed the fight with me one time and he vacated the title the second time after he signed the contract because he was scared, Groves beat DeGale but every fight is different. What I know is that I would have beaten DeGale in front of his fans”.
And Ndiaye didn’t see anything in Groves’ masterful performance over former World Champion Glen Johnson last December to worry about.
“I wasn’t impressed with Groves’ win over Glen Johnson and I saw nothing there to really worry me, he was an old man, I’m in my prime and will give him a real fight, I’m motivated to be the first to beat Groves and realise my dream and get a world title shot”.
Groves v Ndiaye features as chief-support on a blockbuster card joint-headlined by WBO World Lightweight Champion Ricky Burns’ unification showdown against IBF World Champion Miguel Vazquez and WBO World Light-Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly’s title defence against Robin Krasniqi, plus heavyweight Dereck Chisora* and Commonwealth Super-Featherweight Champion Liam Walsh, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).
