Frampton vs. Santa Cruz 2: Showtime Extreme Results Recap
REDKACH GETS TKO STOPPAGE OVER BROCK IN 8TH
Ivan Redkach (20-2-1) capped off a shut out performance with a cherry on top in way of a TKO finish over tough as nails Demond Brock (13-4-1). Brock was in the match looking to land something big but his offensive output wasn’t as high as his foe’s and every time that he jumped into the pocket to land something meaningful Redkach beat him to the punch with some vicious uppercuts inside and crisp left hands to the body and head. Not only was the Ukraine native beating his man to the punch, he was beating him down with deadly combos and quick hooks downstairs and a pretty jab upstairs.
Brock couldn’t get off on the inside or even on the outside when he tried to adjust midway into the bout and constantly either out of range missing on his shots or eating punches at close range from Redkach. The fight was a lopsided shut out for Redkach who never let off of the gas and in the 8th and final round leveled his man with a clean 2-punch combination. The hook that ended the combo blasted the Louisiana native sending him to the mat flat on his back. He beat the count and did his best to trudge on but after coming up short on some Hail Mary 1-2s referee Jay Nady had seen enough and stepped in to call the match.
The official time of the finish came at (2:30) of Round 8 for Ivan Redkach who improves to (20-2-1) while the loss lowers Demon Brock to (13-4-1).
BENAVIDEZ FIERCELY FINISHES MAMADJANOV IN FOUR MINUTES
Long Beach representative David BENAVIDEZ (17-0 w/16 KOs ) added another stoppage to his stellar record as part of the Showtime Extreme telecast versus Sherali Mamadjanov (14-2). Out of the gate Benavidez used his height and reach to jab his way into his man’s chest, landing some strong jabs and counter hooks. The Namangan native covered up and looked to counter but the hand speed wasn’t there and he spent too much time fighting just out of range. Late into the first stanza Benavidez landed a wicked left hook-upper cut to the body and as his man’s hands went down from the pain he raked him across the face with a clubbing straight right hand sending him to the canvas with about 4 seconds left in Round 1. Sherali beat the count and walked over to his corner on unsteady legs.
A minute into Round 2, Benavidez walked his man down and caught him flush along the corner of the ring with a double-left hook to the body sending him to the mat one more time. After getting up and beating the count, Mamadjanov turned his back to the official and walked over to his corner then rested his hands on the top rope therefore his body language was more than enough for referee Russell Mora to call a stop to the action.
The official time of the stoppage came at (1:04) of Round 2 as Benavidez gets the TKO victory over Mamadjanov.
TAYLOR EARNS HARD-FOUGHT NOD OVER GAME OLVERA
Josh Taylor (8-0) remained unbeaten tonight with his unanimous points verdict over Alfonso Olvera (8-3-1) but it didn’t come as easy as the judges score cards led one to believe. (As a matter of fact the guys on the call for Showtime had Taylor winning by either just a one point or two point margin). Sure, you can say Taylor was more effective and landed the cleaner punches and his body work likely won him the fight while simultaneously slowed down his Sonora, Mexico opponent but Olvera was game and in there every step of the way. The Mexican warrior had a grantite chin and was only stunned once and his heart kept him in the match with him coming forward with the purpose to give as good as he was getting.
Olvera’s stock rose tonight with his valiant performance personified by a ‘never give up’ attitude and great conditioning to keep a steady pace and looking each round to set up something big, just coming up short agianst a better polished opponent with nicer hand speed and footwork.
RESULTS : ‘The Tartan Tornado’ Josh Taylor defeats Alfonso Olvera via unanimous decision with scores of 79-72, 78-73 and 78-73.
