CLEVERLY TO LEAD OUT WALES FOOTBALL TEAM THIS WEDNESDAY AT LIBERTY STADIUM
W.B.O. World Light-Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly has been given the prestigious role of leading out Wales’ football team ahead of their Vauxhall international friendly match against Austria this Wednesday (6th February) at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium.
Welsh hero Cleverly, who makes the fifth defence of his title against mandatory challenger Robin Krasniqi on Saturday 16th March at Wembley Arena, will also carry the match ball and take part in the half-time penalty shoot-out.
The 25-year-old star is a big football fan and was talented enough to be offered a schoolboy trial at Cardiff City, but instead stuck to boxing and has racked up an unbeaten 25-fight record.
“I’m honoured to be asked to lead my country’s team out for the match, it will be one of the proudest moments of my career so far”, said Cleverly.
“It’s always an electric atmosphere at the Wales matches, just like coming into the arena for one of my fights, so I’m looking forward to this one, “It’s been a few years since I’ve had to take a penalty and my sharp-shooting isn’t as accurate as my punching so I’ve had to go over to the local pitch over the weekend to sharpen up!”.
