East L.A.’s Julian Ramirez Faces Christopher Martin for WBC Silver Youth Featherweight Title January 29th
East LA’s undefeated rising featherweight prospect “El Camaron” Julian Ramirez (15-0, 8 KO’s) will be taking on veteran Christopher “S.D. Kid” Martin (28-6-3, 9 KO’s) for the WBC Silver Youth featherweight title on Jan 29th on the Golden Boy promotions, LA Fight Club at the Belasco Theater, live on Estella TV.
The southpaw Ramirez displayed good movement, speed, combination punching, a bit of brawling against Hugo Partido, winning a unanimous 10 round decision back in October of 2015.
Ramirez is facing a guy in Martin who has double his fight experience with 37 professional bouts. Martin just recently went on to lose a 12 rounds decision to Gary Russell Jr.
Julian’s late uncle former 2 time junior lightweight champion Genaro “Chicanito” Hernandez who had faced the likes of Azuma Nelson, Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr in his career , would try to deter Julian from taking up the sport of boxing.
JR- “When I was younger he would say you don’t want to be a boxer. He never wanted a person to be a boxer cause he knew how dirty the game is and how money goes fast.”
Despite hearing those words Julian had a knack for fighting –
JR – “First of all I always like to fight. I always been aggressive, a hot head. Most importantly boxing was easy. Boxing has always been a game to me. A lot of people make it seem like its super hard but I think boxing is hard, I think it’s easy. You train, you sleep right and you train and you could do whatever you want in the ring. The gym was always there for me and my grandpa was a big boxing fan and they all into boxing and some way somehow I would end up in the gym.”
Realizing that Julian had a liking for the sport and there was no quitting in him Hernandez advice changed.
JR- “He just told me literally, the last time I saw him. He already knew that I wasn’t going to stop. When your training just keep throwing until you don’t feel your arms anymore.”
With 15 fight under his belt and a possible title shot possibly coming sooner than later. Julian expresses his readiness for a title shot if and when it comes his way.
JR- “I think I am ready. Whenever they tell me I am going to fight for a title. I am going to be motivated and I am going to go hard. I know I could mess with any of these guys that got titles. There are so many people who have titles today you don’t even know who’s champion. I know I could fight and beat any of these guys. I’ve been sparring with these guys Leo Santa Cruz”
I don’t know why they don’t just fight each other win, lose or draw.”
JR- “Everybody is scared to fight Rigondeaux, they say he is boring. If anybody was to beat him they would get respect because no matter what, he is a 2 time gold medalist like Lomachenko. They’ve done a lot and that doesn’t mean they are invisible, they could be beat.”
JR- “When I get a chance to fight any of these guys I am going to take it”.
“I don’t like these fighters that say I am going to leave it up to my manager”.
“They already know that they are not going to fight whoever they name out there.”
